exp only comes from kills, quests, logs, leves, and other turn ins. Anytime you're not actively playing your character should be sitting in a city or similar where they get rested exp (not actual experience, but an accumulating exp buff).

On the other hand, you get fun just actually playing the game. Or that's how is supposed to work.

Yeah you do, but only if you unequip your main weapon.

Why do you need to leave your character in the first place?
