How can I get a treasure map?

You need to get one of the Disciples of the Land classes (Botanist, Miner, and I'm not sure if Fishers can get maps too?) and level until they're high enough to harvest from level 40+ gathering spots. Then you have a rare chance of finding treasure maps. There's an accompanying quest, which IIRC is in Wineport, where you'll get a skill called Decipher that lets you read the maps.

I did my first treasure hunt with a FC mate the other day. Started quite badly, since I fail at understanding maps, but ended well!

Note you can actually buy treasure maps at market board in case they are available. Just search 'timeworn'. You can buy 1, decipher it and buy another 1 so you can search for 2 coffers at the same time (timeworn maps are Unique, meaning you can have just 1 on your inventory any given time).

also to confirm fishers can get maps too. i got one on sunday :P

Yes, fishers can get maps, but unlike other gathering classes you do not get to choose which type of a map to gather.

You catually do - by fishing at specific locations.

- Timeworn Leather Map: Level 40 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes.

- Timeworn Goatskin Map: Level 45 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes.

- Timeworn Toadskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (South Umbral Isles(Western La Noscea) and Rathefrost(Mor Dhona) only)

- Timeworn Boarskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Reaver Hide(Western La Noscea) and the Tangle(Mor Dhona) only)

- Timeworn Peisteskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Lake Tahtotl(North Shroud), Parata's Peace (Western Thanalan), and the North Shards(Mor Dhona) only).
