Faerie AI Inquiries

I've gone over some various posts on the forums here but haven't quite managed to find anything properly definitive on the subject of Sic and Obey.

Eos' abilities are far too useful, and have far too long cooldowns to let her control, but am I a terrible person or worse, a bad healer, for bringing Selene out and leaving her alone? Is the flawlessly precise uptime worth not having direct control over Silence? Even further, is it worth losing Whispering Dawn, Fey Covenant, and Fey Illumination in order to keep up the 30% haste effects? I certainly like the last two of those abilities, but I find it very difficult to fit them into encounters efficiently, whereas Fey Glow/Light is a much simpler thing to use.

In short, how does I Faeries, kthx?

It depends entirely upon the fight you're doing. Eos's major contribution is her AoE healing (the CDs are nice, but they're not really a determining factor in which fairy to bring); if you don't need more AoE healing (e.g. you're running with a WHM you trust or it's a fight that doesn't have any AoE damage in the first place), bring out Selene since she'll be more useful.

As to the AI, you really should learn to use Eos on Obey. Learning to micromanage your fairies is one of those fundamental skills that all SCHs really should learn (the other 2 things are Aetherflow stack management/use and realizing that you're not a WHM so you shouldn't be healing like one). Eos on Obey is basically worthless because she's an idiot about her CDs, and Selene is never going to be as good of a pet for healing purposes as she is (even for ST purposes, Fey Illumination is one of your 2 healing CDs and the only one that benefits you; it's also the strongest healing CD in the game while you're in a group because it affects the other healer in your party as well).

I don't even bother using Eos anymore. The DPS boost Selene provides along with an adequate fellow WHM to pick up AoE healing works all the way up until Turn 6 (which I haven't attempted and cannot speak to). Ex Primals, first 5 turns of coil...I don't find Eos makes it any easier than Selene on sic.

The DPS boost provided by Selene is not much worth it. At average, I think the CD reduction to DPS is around 5%. And you can't have it up all the time as you have to interchange it every 30 secs. And it's very rare for a DPS to know what kind of boost they currently have. I would rather do the cleric stance dance than take away my AOE healing.

On the other hand, did you know that a Rouse powered Whispering Dawn is better than Medica2? And since you control Fey Illumation, you have a better knowledge on when is the best time to cast AOE HOT.

I use Selene for trash and Eos for solo and 2nd coil bosses unless I know the WHM is awesome and don't need her healing input much for raid

Having a 5% boost half the time is like having a 2.5% boost all the time. You can stance dance regardless of fairy choice. Super WD doesn't matter in a fight with few AoE mechanics. In such cases Selene is objectively better.

2.5% boost vs letting your whm attack or have some breathing room?

Selene is great, but... Most cases, I'd rather see someone use Eos on auto than Selene on auto.

There's a reason why groups are leaving healer upgrades for last and DPS first. I think DPS takes priority over mostly unnecessary extra healing power.

If either of your healers have the downtime to DPS...you don't need Eos. Breathing room is really only necessary for learning parties, and even then...I still use Selene.

I'm saying Eos can give your healers the time to dps, not that they'd start with time to dps. Breathing room helps for when things go wrong. I'm more of a fan of "slow and steady wins the race" than rush to the end and risk wiping when almost done due to some unexpected thing happening.

Again though, personally, Selene is only good on manual.

I DPS with Selene out in every encounter in the game, including T9.

Eos's 1 minute Whispering Dawn is not going to enable you to DPS.
