Anyone who knows what ambient occlusion is knows that in ffxiv ambient occlusion does not work, yet it is an option.. I have tested this and had several other people test it and ask for feedback. They all say the same thing. There is no ambient occlusion. If you don't know what it is allow me to explain.
If you place a tree between you and the sun, the leaves and the trunk should block the path of that light, leaving you with very pretty sun shaft effects. This does not happen though. It hurts your performance when you enable occlusion but you get no ambient occlusion.
That setting makes things look so pretty to me and is imo one of the most important graphic setting to come into play in a very long time. PLEASE, please, please, fix this and stop ignoring it.

While id not mind being able to turn AO on, a move to Dx11 would be time better spent imo.
Tessellation could see and improvement in the performance of mid range Pcs used right, and give some nice eye candy to the hi end ones.
There are a lot of fluff graphic tricks they could apply but i think content and game play needs more work, that sort of stuff can come along with the Ps3 launch give the Pc players something to sweeten the subs we will be paying by then.
