Why do you heal?
Tanks like to be leaders, DPS like to be killers. But what about us healers? What is our reasoning for doing a job that revolves around taking care of our allies, whether they're good or bad players?
Personally, I chose to be a Conjurer because I enjoy solo play and have never played a Final Fantasy game without having the ability to heal myself(good healing.. not a BLM/ACN trying to do Physick). Also note I didn't play much of MMOs until this so I didn't know how it would be like without healing and frankly didn't want to find out.
And also, I like support classes and specializing. The only reason I made my alternative job, Monk, is because the job seemed fun and different. I never plan to shift my main job.
What about you?

I play what is needed by the group at that particular time.
Except healer. Y'all gonna die if I pick up the staff.
I know, this response is completely converse to what you were asking. Good day. :P

For me it was a change in pace, in FFXI my main was DRK for 10 years.

The queue is shorter....
Well that and it is a different kind of frenetic mix to blend in dodge, dps, and of course heals along with crazy panic heals.
But I play all three. So I don't really know.

When you're tired of running the same content as a role it's time to switch it up. Healing is amazingly fun the first few times you do content

DPS isn't particularly interesting to me in general, so I like to tank and heal. For tanking, it's not about "leading," it's because it's fun to stand up to a boss the size of a building and live through whatever it throws at you. For healing/buffing, it's about supporting everyone else and simply allowing them do what they all do best.
The only time healing is frustrating to me is when people keep getting hit by avoidable AOEs, because then it becomes my job to cover for their mistakes, but in a well-oiled group it's really fun.

Basically because I just love to help people.

Honestly? I find it more challenging than DPS and more wanted than DPS without the horrible, "Get it a corner and watch your screen explode with abilities." I've never been a fan of melee in general, but I especially hate tanking in this game.
I have a bard that I really love, but the healers in this game are just so fun. They did a great job with them.

Because I wanted to be useful to my people (FC/LS/friends in general) and help almost everytime when they need my help or any help in general. That's the same reason why I leveled all my DoH classes before my DoW/DoM classes. Also as a personal challenge, since I play the three roles now.
I prefer to tank. It's my favorite task, and yes, you can say I like to be the leader of the raid. That's not what I wanted when I started to play as a tank. I wanted to be "that" guy, the one standing in front of the badass monster. Taking all his/her hits. The feeling is awesome.
