Paladin gearing help!

I am a bit frustrated about my late game gearing. Should I really maximized parry? Or can I contribute a slight DPS using this gear set-up http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/MOLV ? It gives about 290 determination and 421 crits, but the backlash is, it lowers parry to 490. xD Can someone help me decide though their experience. Especially on second coils.

you should not put too much thought into parry, or secondary stats in general, they make no noticably impact at all.
Take the gear which is an update to your vit and str.

Only sec-stat you should have an eye on is your accuracy, and this only concerns coil.

Wow! This enlightens me a bit :3 By the way, where did you allocate your secondary stats beside accuracy?

Parry has a ceiling anyway at endgame, doesn't it? So anything over a certain value is redundant? I could be wrong, just something I read :)

With allocate secondary stats, do you mean the bonus points on your primary stats you get from leveling?
They are all in Vit now.

Originally I was going 15str/15vit, but if you pug, ppl will most of the time take the tank with the most HP as MT, so.. :)

What he said! Its a long read however. There is no Ceiling to Parry as its a Linear Stat.

The general concensus is that +13 points of parry equates to a 1% gain in Parry chance/rate (0.08% per point). So by reducing your parry by 100 (to 490) you are essentially loosing 8% parry rate. This may not seem like much since Parry is RNG similar to CRIT, but mitigation is mitigation and over a long fight this adds up, even if your hoping for a chance to parry.

By this logic i cant see it ever being a good decision to scrifice parry for any amount of secondary stats until you have cleared T9 with your group.

BG's Former MT now with Collision (Junpei) with several T9 Clears recommends prioritizing Parry over everything in a progression scenario (Link). He also posts his BiS list for progression.

I even challenged his theory (in that thread) with an alternative set which only traded off -15 points of Parry for +64 CRIT and he quickly shot that down as well. Survivability is key for tanks and a marginal DPS increase from our perspective wont make or break the fight. Parry on the other hand can and will mitigate the hardest hitting attacks on 2nd coil which could prove to be the difference maker.

Once you have cleared the hardest content you can consider changing up sets. Until then your better off stacking as much parry as you can.

I personally have aprox 580 parry atm and i notice that i parry quite frequently compared to my old set of 500.

Junpei is 100% correct, if youre doing progression as main tank, any mitigation you can get as tank is better then any marginal dps you can bring. When gear is scarce, and alot of RNG can overwhelm a healer, being able to parry 1 extra attack make or break the fight.

The more familiar your group is with a fight, the less valuable parry becomes.

My group is doing T9 atm (at Heaven Fall).
I'm using Crit/DET + a bit of parry mix. My parry is around 500-520 ish.

so far I never have issue with MTing T9 yet, Might consider going more parry is I ran into issue but other wise I prolly stick with CRIT/DET set

so far the most scary thing while MTing T9 is then the debuff from Raven beak explode. (as it non-parry/block able) and it usually goes off at the same time as the boss hit you with other ability.

I would recommend, prioritize ACC first once you hit cap goes for iLV. no amount of parry can overcome VIT and defend you get from high iLV gear. 2nd stat Optimization come after that.
