Paladin PS4 help - Using the cover skill

I have a level50 Paladin, and have some trouble using the cover skill. I play on a PS4.

I usually "tumbling" around with switching to the right partymember by using the up/down on the Dpad, and in time when Im done its usually too late. I would appriciate advise on this, and have the following questions:
1. Is the skill usefull at all?
2. Is it any macros I can make to automaticly use cover on the partymember who is stealing hate, being attacked, etc.?
3. Am I just gonna get used to switching partymembers by using the Dpad?

This will enable you to cover the target of your enemy, in case it runs away from you, while still being able to use it on a DPad selected target.

As this is a reactional ability, you still need to be fast and the usefull situations are rare, sadly.
For instance, if one mob is running away from you, it might be wiser to just provoke+range attack it back, instead of covering, letting it run to its new target and losing this ~2 seconds till you provoke it off.

Regarding cover you should note:

• Range is limited to 10yalms
• If the covered target will move away more than 10yalms, the effect will end
• Only physical attacks

Its a bit sad too hear that it is not very useful though, since the the skill on its own merits is a very cool feature. (i.e. saving mellee dps from Garuda's wicked wheel)

There was a thread like this on tankspot and it pretty much said cover is almost entirely useless. Apparently there are instances in later Coil fights where it 'can' be useful (not a neccesity) but few and far between.

Tbh, I don't even have it on my secondary hotbar (I play PS4 too). And my bars are tried and tested and tweaked.

I have tried to practice a bit more since I wrote the post, but have in a way put it to rest.

Still have it on my second hotbar though in case I feel the urge to use it :-p

You can use cover for fun imo. I sometimes would steal a DeathSentence from our WAR MT if i felt he was not ready/topped up for the attack. It can also be used to get aggro back from a party member if they pull unneccessary hate. Its used on T5 scourge pulls in some strats as well.

Sadly I havent put myself against Twintania yet, but Ill keep it in mind when I get there. Since its "just for fun" Im guessing that its best to get some practice and keep myself alive before I try this against her. :-p

There is actually 1 very good use for this skill that many (including myself) tend to forget. Its for PLD's doing Myth Speedruns in Brayflox HM. If you pop cover on the Healer on the Last pull before the 2nd boss, the Illuminati Snipers' random jump attack will be a non issue allowing the healer to focus all heals on the tank/DPS.

I use it on a weak party member when I know there is about to be some physical AE dmg. T4 with knights/soldiers, Titan X in various instances, I think you can save some Levi X damage as well. Sadly, a lot of damage is magical, and cover will not work on that.

I wouldn't ignore it though - the mark of a great player is knowing when to use those uncommon abilities to uncommonly great effect : D
