All that rain in Drybone has me suspicious

Drybone ain't so dry anymore. I do a lot of RP in various places in Thanalan and I've noticed something. That rain out in Eastern Thanalan is really strange.

I've played since 2.0 and it rarely rained in E.Thanalan. Spent hours out there doing sidequest after sidequest. No rain. All the way through the early 2.2 this was true. Now, I stand out there for a few minutes, torrential downpour. Sideways freaking hurricane-like rain. It used to be dust storms and sun. Now there's like a few minutes of sun then it rains again.

Even stranger. No other zone has this kind of rain. It's usually the calm normal rain. The other areas of Thanalan aren't affected by this rain. It's pouring in Eastern, go to Central, and it's dry. I've stood in central for hours and didn't see a drop of rain.

SUSPICIOUS. I refuse to believe this is some sort of addition for fishing conditions or something. This isn't normal rain.

My current theory is that this is an omen. Look back at the last stages of 1.x. It rained for days when Dalamud started affecting the atmosphere. While it's unlikely the second moon is going to plummet to the ground, there is one thing that it could be.

Eastern Thanalan is closest to South Shroud where the sylphs live and what's coming? Ramuh. Ramuh's associated with lightning, which could be associated with storms. I haven't stayed in South Shroud long enough to tell if that's the case there too, but what if it's a sign, an omen that Ramuh is coming and the weather-aether is going nuts? What do you guys think?

Neat theory! But I think its just a coincidence in your case. I've always taken note of how heavy the rain is in Eastern Thanalan (probably because its so odd in a place called DRYbone) and I know for sure it has had heavy rain since I started playing during the 2.0 beta. I think just by some fluke you were never in the zone when it was raining before recently. For me, I can't ever seem to visit while its not raining, that place needs a new name.

Seems like Camp Wet-to-the-Bone has always been like that.

The question is... where is all that water going? Into the huge canyon at High Bridge? Into some gigantic subterranean Sea?

Could the fall of Dalamud permanently altered the planet's own climate patterns by it's descent into our atmosphere? Tidal waves for instance are affected by our own Moon's proximity to us and the the gravitational field it emits by its size and distance from us (crazy considering how freakishly far it is in reality) But could Dalamud, having come from quite a distance out and all the way through our own Atmosphere, every single layer of it, have pushed things a bit too far one way or another? It's been raining like crazy since 2.0 launched actually, I noticed that during the storyline missions, those sudden torrential downpours as you mentioned, we never had anything like that in 1.0. We had some spectacular lightning storms, but nothing like this with rain. Part of that I'm sure has to do with the new engine yes, but the frequency of it is rather odd.

Going along that, sort of off topic, but as the name suggests -Drybone, it's a shame they couldn't have designed the terrian to respond to weather the way FF12's landscapes sometimes did. With alternate routes forming due to the amount of rain we receive, new monster spawns (or fates) which can only come out during certain weather/landscape patterns.

Ah well.

Even in the very first weeks of the game, I heard a lot of 'DRYBONE MORE LIKE WETBONE AMIRITE' jokes going around.

I had just assumed it was seasonal. It is Spring and I guessed a little more rainy for that clime is normal.

I don't fully understand why, but whenever I see the heavy rain in Drybone, I always think of this song.

Must be something to do with my childhood upbringing. <3

I spent a lot of time in the Drybone area in 2.0 and early 2.1 doing GC leves, botany, and every sidequest I could get my hands on. I think it rained twice in the entire time I was there. I honestly cannot remember if it was sideways rain or not, but it wasn't this much. This is too much and none of the other zones seem to match the frequency, which is where the conspiracy theory comes from.

I actually have considered that Dalamud's fall changed the weather permanently. Which now that I think of it, there's a chunk of Dalamud out in The Burning Wall. What if this is connected to Dalamud / Coil instead? /ponders many ideas.

Close enough :) According to certain levequest (I don't remember its name, sorry >.<), the aetheric flow changed, and since then it has been raining a lot in Thanalan, even if it's a desert. It makes even more sense in eastern, as you can see all the crystal spikes of corrupted aether. A similar thing happened in Coerthas, for example, and that's why at least the part we can see right now (central) is covered in snow.

Regarding any change in the amount of rains in eastern since 2.2, it has always been the same for me, so it might just be the nature of the RNG :P

personally; I think calling the place DRYbone and having it rain almost 24/7 there is just the producers little joke.
