Most games dont allow pms or shouts till lvl 20ish why not do it here?
Because that's ridiculously useless?
I think that's a bit unfair on newer players myself. How about an option though to disable shouts/tells received from under a certain level?
Also by the way a lot of the gil spammers are level 50 now anyway.
Don't Most games only apply that towards accounts that are free? (Trial accounts come to mind here)
As a paying customer, there really shouldn't be any type of restrictions for communicating with friends so early on.
RMT bots already grind themselves up to lvl 50 so this wouldn't really impact them at all.
Option to receive tells only from friends list would be nice.
Or the one option in FFXI that kinda worked. Block shouts, tells, etc. that flags as spam. Problem with that one is that you can bypass it with creative typing/writing and whoever at SE would need to update it every once so often and it could potentially block legit messages.
All they need to do is block level 5 characters from sending 300 tells a minute. These bots just go through player search sending a tell to every person they can find on the server, and then once they reach the end of the list they simply loop and do it all over again. I'll get a message from a gilspammer and everyone in my party confirms that they also got a message from the same spammer. Then five minutes later I'll get another message from the same bot, and lo and behold everyone in party will confirm that they got the message again as well.
There is *no* reason a level 1 character needs to be able to send tells to more than 5-6 different people within a 60 second time period. That they haven't made this adjustment seven months after the game has launched is truly baffling.
I see very little shout spam these days so I don't think it's necessary to limit shouting. But throttling whispers would be an easy way to drastically cut down on 90% of the RMT spam and would have practically no effect on legitimate players (because what new player is sending a tell per second to a bunch of different people?).
I remember playing some F2P games that had something like that, including one that prevented under-levels from buying or selling items to other players. Let's just say it was just really really annoying.
EDIT: Also note that it stopped RMT spam like... not at all.
Easy fix, no PMs unless they are on your friends list.
