I... didn't know that either. Mind blown. I guess it's easy to forget these things. :O
I would love if they rehashed FFXII music or even FFT would be great. If you want to hear great build-up to a chorus in a boss music listen to the FFXII boss theme.
A lot of stuffs in FF14 are based on the previous titles of the series, it's easy to spot them if you played and remembered all of them. :D
For example, I think one of the FF14 story quests is related to a FF4 boss. (If you haven't realize it before)
At Coerthas when the fake inquisitor assumes the form of a dragon in one of the quests there, it could be based on the Dark Elf boss in FF4 where it transforms to a dragon halfway during the fight. The fake inquisitor's race is Elezen, which looks like elves.
I'm wondering why they didn't remix FF4 music for the 2nd boss of AK.
This game is remarkable for that sort of thing.
Also, I do not know the extent of your experience with the first and second coils of Bahamut, so I will keep that in mind.
Some items, such as the Catoblepas (Halatali HM) from FFV and the Zu (Pharos Sirius) from FFIV, were easy to spot though still much appreciated.
Here are some things that took me a bit of time to catch:
The final boss of Haukke HM was originally a boss from Final Fantasy V.
ADS from Turn 2, which you have already pointed out, originates from Final Fantasy IV
The super-boss from Turn 5 was originally a boss from Final Fantasy V.
The boss from Turn 6 was originally a rare monster from Final Fantasy VI.
The boss from Turn 7 was originally a boss from Final Fantasy V.
The boss from Turn 8 *strongly* resembles an iconic boss from Final Fantasy V.
There are many, many more, but they are generally more obvious and not so note-worthy (such as the Ultima Weapon, Tonberry King, etc...)
-vnbr
As a big fan of Final Fantasy IV ever since it came out on the SNES, I noticed it right away.
My first impression of the ADS was actually not FFIV but rather FFXII, with the Sphere Rooks:

....and they're located on the Sky Fortress Bahamut.
The Sphere Rooks also have this description:
...of which is highly similar in description for Repelling Cannons.Quote:
Small fighter airship of the Imperial army. Gun turrets placed on the keel, and turrets on the deck make this an effective weapon against air and ground targets.
Let's also not forget that Turn 4 has this particular evil thing lurking as well....

....which is the exact replica of FFXII's Spinner-Rook, also found in the Sky Fortress Bahamut.
With the same signature attack of Pox.
(In fact, all the mobs in Turn 4 was lifted from FFXII and FFXIII.)
Oh wow I forgot all about this fight. Awesome xD
