Want to fix PvP? Well here's my suggestion...

So, between bots, people boosting, the current ranking system, a lot of people seem to be quite unhappy with how it works.

So, what's wrong?

People boosting get their ranks up very quickly.

Does this mean they are good players?

Not necessarily.

Does it mean they stand a good chance at winning?

Based on the likelihood of having high ilvl PvP gear, yes.

What can be done to fix this?

Well, my suggestion is a weekly or daily rank that resets every week or day.

"How will this fix things?" you may ask...

Well, for those who have decided to boost their gear, if they are not all they may seem scratched up to be, their rank will be low and they will get mixed in with the lower ranks.

But wait....their morale from their gear will cause them to kill the low ranks anyway. How do you fix this?

Simple, either cap the amount of morale a person can have based on the weekly rank, be it if players are put into a grouping (for example, players are matched into a rank 1-10 bracket, 11-20 bracket etc. based on weekly rank) or, for this match making, the morale stat is moved entirely. Should removing the morale stat work, it could all be based on PvE gear. Although there is one issue here. People seem to have a disliking to people boosting for their PvP gear yet there is no issue for those boosting their PvE gear with buying/selling T5, Extreme Primals etc. but that is a whole different story and is a lot easier to get anyway.

But wait...what's the point in getting the PvP gear then if morale holds no effect?

Well, my suggestion here is that this PvP match making is an entirely separate match making to the current options available.
With a weekly reset, it keeps players on an even playing ground, rotates good players through to be match made with just as good players. I would also hope that this method would shorten queue times for everyone, especially around reset times.


To finish, I realise my suggestion here may not be optimal, but I don't make games, I don't do programming. So I am sure it is something that could be worked upon and I hope the Development Team take a strong consideration in implementing a system like this.

Of course, I still believe this PvP match making should still reward the experience and Wolf Marks. I am not suggesting this replace the current ranking system as that should stay implemented for the purpose of equipping the current PvP gear but rather to run alongside it as it would have the reset.

If the community supports me in this idea, please say so, like it, promote it and hope the development team take a good, long, hard look into this!

Think I may have missed something? Perhaps my idea needs to be tuned? Or won't work at all. By all means, please leave feedback and suggestions.

sounds like a bad idea, na i'll pass. sounds more like forcing hardcore players who like to pvp to a penalty. that would cause people who do mostly or only pvp to get grinded down to a screeching halt after the cap because of casuals who don't pvp as much. some of us play pvp so much, it would be no surprise to reach that cap in a day and the rest of the week would be fruitless. sure it would shorten queue times, no doubt, however depending on how much the person plays, that could make progression slower than it already is and irritating in a pvp system where already the amount of rewards don't equal up to effort put in. Furthermore it may even cause pvp to be more like pve being unable to find queues towards the end of the week because most players have already reached the weekly cap earlier in the week so they won't come back until after the reset. so people who can only play on weekends would be right back to square one to long wait times and getting less marks. the bottom line is population. there are less people actually doing pvp per data center than what the queues need to keep a steady rotation of players of the same rank going, so the fights are more like Mr. T. vs The Smurfs and the Smurfs get pound-caked. AS long as the population problem exists, then the queuing and match-making system will always be imba because the system is trying to supplement for players that just aren't there. If the number of players increased by removing the per data center restriction, then I think the current match-making system would work fine because there would be enough low and high rank players where r40 players wouldn't get plagued with the presence of low rank players and low rank players would actually be able to play without getting Hulk-smashed in 3 seconds by r40 players after a one hour wait.

It's not holding anyone back, it would be a separate matchmaking system to what is already in place. So hardcore players with soon be separated from the casuals as they rank up in the weekly ranking to face other hardcore players. That is, if they choose to go with the weekly ranking match making or stick with the current system.

Also, I never made mention of a cap. I see no reason that someone's rank should be lowered in the event of a loss and increased for a win. That way, even if someone isn't a very strong player but just plays all day and gets a few wins, isn't matched against the very strong players and gets rolled easily but rather, it keeps them matched with players of a similar skill, at least as the week progresses due to people getting into higher or lower ranks.

This is one of the common complaints in the win-trading threads. That win-trading is taking away from the population. However, if someone doesn't want to play PvP, they won't so it won't really effect it anyway. So, have to work with what is there, the small population. If this method of matchmaking is enough to entice the PvP players to search for this rather than spread across the level 30, 40, 50, and 50 Light party matches, it would see more matches being made as more people are queuing for the same thing.

However, it is not entirely as simple as saying more people means more queues. It's the same issue with dungeons and trials in the DF, we lack a a certain amount of X role. In the case of PvP, there's a lack of healers. This is quite easy to see when you queue up as a tank, melee or ranged DPS and get a 12-20 minute + queue. Switch to healer and a lot of the time it is Less than 5 minutes.

The problem with going healer is that you are generally the prime target. If you don't have PvP gear, this will encourage people to not want to play because why bother if you are going to get slaughtered? So, take the PvP gear out of the equation and put everybody on an equal playing ground, then what? People can't say they don't want to play because the other team boosted i90 or i100 gear because it simply won't hold since it would be useless.

All the same, I do appreciate the reply and perhaps, if there isn't enough people willing to queue for this, it could be something that could be tweaked. Again, without the resources myself, it's not something I could find out.

I've said this countless times, and I'll say it again.

PvP should have never, ever, ever, EVER been a gear treadmill. Whether or not there is mark caps, bans on win-trading, or whatever hot fix you come up with, the gear is the problem. It attracts the PvE players ultimately for the purpose of glamour. There is also the fact that new gear is better in PvP, so of course anyone interested in winning will need it; which promotes botting.

Suppose they de-rank the boosters, pop a hotfix, and moniter PvP. That may fix the boosters and botters, but then people would simply corpse grind - which is just as bad as botting. Why would they do this?

They want that badass glamour.

I duno is dividing the pvp community into more ranks will help. ATM pvp is boring. 1 arena over and over again. no objectives. High intensity quick fights aren't fun for most. Boost XP gain. Seriously 20 xp for lose and 60 for win from 1-40.. Yea that grind is BS
