How to type Japanese/Chiense characters?

Hello,

I can type in Japanese, or Chinese outside of the game, but when I click inside the game, and try to type it's only Englsih? Any advice pls?

Try alt-shift while the chat input is active. The input layouts need to installed in the windows language bar for this of course.

Well, I mean if I ALT SHIFT outside of game it works perfectly. It changed to JP or CN, or EN and then types that language. But when I try it in game.. nothing.

If you run in window mode you can also click on the language bar in the windows taskbar and manually set the stuff. You will probably have to activate the chat first though.

i am in window mode. The thing is even if i have it set to JP in the menu bar, it types EN in the game :( thats where my problem lies

Did you set it to Microsoft IME and enabled hiragana/katakana?

FFXIV's text UI works the same as any other program. Just click in the text line then switch your language. :)

I had to figure this out the other day. Here is how it worked for me:

1. Make sure you have Japanese - Microsoft IME enabled in your language bar.
2. When you have FFXIV open, switch the language input to Japanese (if you are in windowed mode, it's easy to do, go click the EN and switch it to JP)
3. You can only type Japanese AFTER you have hit enter in your chat box to start chatting. IE. You can't type in Japanese from the getgo, you need to press ENTER or the / key to open the chat box. You will need to press ALT+~ to switch to Hiragana, and ALT+SHIFT to get back to Romaji input
4. Switch back and forth as needed!

Just a note...FFXIV doesn't support the use of Chinese IME.
