Server Populations
Hello everyone! I'm still pretty new to the game, so I apologize if this is a stupid question. Basically, I'm leveling my first character from 45 to 50, and it seems nearly impossible to get FATE groups in areas that are level appropriate for me. I was curious if this is an issue related to the design of those areas (I've heard something about ATMA mobs being removed?) or due to the population of my server. I know there are ways to level separate from FATEs, but I rolled DPS which causes dungeons queues to take a while. Also, I've done most of my quests up to that point.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

make a PF for dzmeal(spelling?) darkhold for first room xp farm. I joined one the other day to finish lvling my BLM, it nets you ~50k xp, and we had it down to 2:30 per run
and if not into that, create a PF for multiple runs of D darkhold, or aurum vale for lvling. can usually get a party to stick around for multiple runs because they want to lvl as well

Some statistics here: http://www.xivsoul.com/
But it depends too on your play time and what the population on your server are doing. If there isn't an influx of new characters regularly, some level areas will be pretty empty. If people aren't hunting atma much anymore, then you won't see a herd of level 50s trampling through FATEs. :)
eta: Oh, as stated above, dungeons are the faster way to level (and get gil).

The thing with FATEs is people only really use them for atma now, dungeons are far better exp, and allow you to improve at your job. I only imagine you aren't looking in areas that drop atma, I would assume you are in Coerthas right now, which isn't an atma area, so don't expect many FATEs.
My only suggestion is to cope with the long DF queues, or start your own runs in party finder.

Thanks for the tips, everyone!
I did seem to get a lot of xp in dungeons, but the queue time is long. I was trying to find something to do while I wait. I'll just do my levequests as I have a lot saved up right now.
