Issues with upgrading from PS3 to PS4

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. I've upgraded my ps3 version to the ps4 version in the mogstation. I was given a 12 digit code. When going to the playstation store, I scrolled to redeem code, entered code and then the store kicked me out to the home screen.
We decided to try and log into my boyfriends ps3 to see if the code would do something on his system, and it didn't kick him out. It actually asked for him to download it.

Any reason why my code won't work?
