SMNs: Do the majority of you also play SCH?

Many people seem to prefer SCH to WHM when it comes to healing. And yet I've seen a lot of BLMs, but very few SMNs. So this got me wondering: Are most people who play SMN at endgame also SCH healers?

From what I can see, the disadvantage of playing both on the same character is that in addition to having to constantly reset your stat bonuses every time you switch Jobs, some people might find it a pain to have to collect two different sets of gear.

I also know from experience in WoW that, simply put, not everybody wants to heal or tank. Many players just naturally like specs like Shadow Priest and Balance Druid, but have no intention of becoming an endgame healer as well.

So just a curiosity question: Those of you who play SMN, do you also play SCH as well for the convenience?

Main: 30 MND. SCH, no SMN
Alt: 30 INT. SMN, SCH when requested by friends and for better queue fishing.

If you must pick one and don't absolutely love SCH, I would recommend my alt's path. The stat drop doesn't matter terribly much for healing most content since healer itemization in general does not scale that much outside of weapon damage.

There is no point to DF as a summoner over scholar. Also when it comes to speedruns people will ask for blm and never smn.

The problem is that so far I have found SMN more fun to play than BLM (although my avatar suggests otherwise) and I've never been a big fan of SCH.

It seems like the classes I like the most in MMOs happen to be the ones no one else likes... =/

I played Summoner & Red Mage as my 2 main jobs in FFXI for 2 1/2 years. I picked my last name "Highsummoner" (After Yuna in 10) 3 1/2 years ago, on the original opening day, Sept. 22nd, 2010, 3 years before Arcanist/Summoner came out.

I did use Scholar to get ahead in queues and when asked for "adventurer in need" for queues as well, but I just don't think I will be a good "post 50, raiding healer" at all. It's too frantic and I just don't think I heal fast enough as a person on either WHM or SCH. Scholar was just a "free job" for me since I knew from 1.0's beta that I would be SMN eventually (3 years and a whole new version of a game later though!) I enjoy spreading my diseases to all around me and sharing them with as many as I can! (Wait, that doesn't sound right?!?)

Although, I think they should have released Leviathan immediately as a pet, it's very offensive since SMN is my main job, that you can't summon him after beating him in Hard mode as well.


Off topic: Can someone tell me why my character's profile is not showing up on the left? It used to be there. I never logout of lodestone, no one else uses my computer, and I guess my browser lost my cookie so I had to log back in yesterday for the first time in months and reselect my main guy vs my inventory alts. But now my character isn't showing up on my posts now?

I almost never play scholar... I knew when I was forced to put points into only one job (well, really just once for your entire class), I would put them into SMN to be the absolute best SMN I could be. I will recognize that doing the 15/15 split isn't a horrible decision, and you could do it if you enjoy playing both smn/sch equally... but I really just wanted to go 'all in' to SMN to push out the highest numbers I could on the most difficult fights. I play WHM if I ever want to be a healer, and that is my secondary job so it works out. There have been times I've played scholar and I haven't felt too much of a decrease... but if I need to heal, I put more energy into WHM gear, and my WHM has all mind. :)

Things will get very interesting when all classes have two+ paths... people will be 'forced' to choose regarding which points to put into everything, and if let's say a nature magic user is branched off of conjurer, perhaps some spellcasters will prefer to put CNJ points in INT and arcanist points in MND for scholar? ;P (Btw, this is all just theoretical for the sake of example. I'm not trying to start some rumors! Lol)

I quite enjoy SCH and healing in general. I think SCH is more complicated to play than WHM, and SMN is more complicated than BLM. I have all mages at 50 so if I want to just mong out I play WHM/BLM but if I want more of a challenge I use SCH/SMN.

SCH is lowest pop class bar MNK on my server (When I play anyway) and SMN isn't far behind. Maybe the more complicated play style contributes to this?

The point system is very poorly thought out. Even now '30 points' is beginning to be a small, insignificant number. The system serves no purpose at all, and will out date itself easily enough. (End of 2.0 I expect 50-60 main stat per gear, making 15 points laughable...if you 15/15)

Between 30 and 50 I used both. But after hitting 50 I ended up using SMN much more, and that is currently my main class.

I did use my SCH for the Labyrinth of the Ancients, and got all of the gear there, but nothing else. And it pains me to say it, but because I recently leveled WHM I am a much better WHM than SCH at the moment. Even though I'm used to having a pet by my side as SMN, I am always struggling with Eos and Selene....

TL;DR: I main SMN, and when I heal I use WHM.

I've been wondering where are all the SMN too. If i see a caster, most of the time, its BLM. I love playing SCH/SMN, I find myself playing SCH more. Not because I like it more (because I love them both equally), but because SCH demand is higher. I dont get to play as much as I like so I find it easy to get into PF and DF as SCH. I also have a tank but im getting bored with tanking and only go as tank for roulette bonuses. I enjoy playing SCH/SMN more.

I agree wholeheartedly, I think alot of people dont play SMN because they think SMN is too complicated Or They Think SMN Suck because they are not playing it right.
