WHM Stats, points and gear for post game

I think I'm finally over my healing horror of the first Garuda fight and I'm now well into post game and chasing my relic. That said, I tend to blast through my mp pretty quickly and am concerned I don't have the correct point allocation or stats for my gear. What should I be looking for most, especially if I'm a nervous healer that tends to blow through mp? Should all of my points go into Mind, should I put some into Vitality or Piety? When equipping tome purchased gear should I look for things that have piety over mind? Just curious how others set this up. I'm working on the nervous part so I don't blow through mp (I have a habit of using Cure 2 when cure 1 would do and I'm stoneskin & regen happy and can't help myself from slapping aero 1, aero 2 and a few stones out there every now and then). Need to calm that down a bit probably. Would appreciate any feedback - thanks

first of all, use the search tool, there's a lot of post like this one and reading all those post you will get an idea on what to do, and u should aim for mind or piety, my main is sch, but for what i have read, some whm put half mind half piety or full piety or full mind

You should put your stat points in MND, all of them. MND and your weapon damage are what matter the most when it comes to the strenght of your heals. After that you should have a comfortable amount of MP (and all your gear pieces will have both PIE for MP and VIT for HP before you're going into the item level 100 set). For secondary stats there's been a lot of dicussion on these forums and elsewhere, but what I like to go for is DET > CRIT > SS. Haven't had any issues with this healing through all content outside turns 7-9 which I'm currently working on.

For blowing away your MP, that is a very normal problem when you're learning the fights and aren't overgeared for them. It gets easier when you are familiar with the fights and have your own healing pattern for it. Use Shroud of Saints every time it's up (although you may want to save it for add phases in some fights) and make good use out of Divine Seal. Don't forget to use all abilities that help you lower the amount of damage your tank is taking (Eye for an eye and Virus especially). Generally it's not a good idea to spam Stoneskin during fights as it's a very expensive spell. Use as much Cure 1 as you can instead of Cure 2s. Regen on the other hand is a very MP effective spell and good to have up on the tank at all times (except when adds pop or during pulls etc.).

Though I am curious about one thing I haven't been doing that you mention, using Shroud of Saints every time it's up - why? Not questioning, just curious as heck. I do use but only AFTER I'm targeted, is this to KEEP from getting targeted in the first place?

For food, I personally use Buttons in a blanket for det, crit and vitality. Pineapple Juice and Mulled Tea are good options if you want some extra PIE. I also carry Hi-Elixirs with me, they give 460 MP and 560 MP back in emergencies and cost nothing.

Shroud of Saints gives you MP regen for its duration, so in fights where enmity isn't an issue it's a good idea to use it every time it's up to help with MP management. Enmity wise it halves your enmity for its duration. I like to use it just when adds pop (for example clones in Garuda fights) or for example in turn 1 when the boss snake splits. That way I can be pretty much 100% sure they won't go for me in the first place but the tank is able to hold them and build enmity from the start. Of course it can also be used as a panic button if you happen to get hate in some fight but when you know the fights that shouldn't happen anymore.

Shroud of Saints actually halves enmity completely. It was only in 1.0 where it was a temporary hate loss, so you should be using it throughout fights regardless of if you need MP or the enmity reduction or not, both will be useful unless you need it for specific sections like if adds pop.

Whooops I think he's right! :) Didn't the enmity come back up in the beta too though? Or maybe I'm imagining things.

Maybe, but then again in beta a lot of stuff used the 1.0 skill descriptions even if they were incorrect, like the Monk fists requiring MP when they didn't.

There's not much else I can add here. I use buttons for food, a always go DET > CRIT > SS on gear..and shroud. Well, for -me- it's situational. I KNOW that in coil T1, the snakes will split and I WILL have hate. So I save shroud for that. But, at this point, mp is not an issue really either. So I don't have to use it for the regen in that particular fight. Now, something like T2, yeah, I use it for the mp regen so the BRD doesn't have to worry about ballad during enrage.


I'm not sure about advice to give on blowing through mp. It's hard if you don't know the fights inside and out. But, IF you can, use Cure 1 as much as possible to proc your free cures. It's EXTREMELY helpful. I rarely use cure 3...at all. It's too costly and the range isn't big enough to really be worth it imo. Medica is a wonderful thing, but don't spam it unless the fight calls for it, like T2. Long giant story short.....You'll get the hang of it. I promise :D
