Turn 7 Kiting & Smn

Hello fellow summoners. As alot of us know, using smn to kite in turn 7 of new coil is becoming a popular and widely used concept. I've been practicing my kiting skills for my raid group, and have enjoyed it. My only issue is...

Garuda likes to kill my Renauds even though I've been keeping her on Medusa-oops I mean- Melusine the whole time...its quite aggrivating when you wipe the raid group cuz your pet is effing retarded. I also don't understand why she is switching targets when I command her to stay on the boss.

For specifics, I only have her on obey and command every action she does. I'm not even having her switch to adds due to the fact I'm afraid shes gonna herp derp and target a Renaud. I've watched a video of a smn kiting...and apprently halfway through the fight he would put her on steady for like...5 mins. To me this is a big dps loss and not very optimal. But...

Is this the way to do it? By putting her on steady when there is a renaud out to ensure she doesn't attack? I feel like I'm missing something here...anyone have any suggestions?

If you put Garuda in the middle of the arena and set her on Obey to the boss she will never attack a Renaud. Never make her switch targets, just put her in middle obey when you first pull on the boss and you never have to move or deal with anything about her attacking the wrong target.

You mean the position where the Healers stand?

I've never kited but I've never had a problem with Garuda switching targets randomly while just dpsing. Unless there's something that makes Garuda lose her target on Melusine?

I put her in the middle, she doesn't get targetted with fireballs.

Yes, in the middle where the healers stand. Because healers are never targeted by the two fireball aoes.

-> I never order Garuda to stop, I keep order "Obey" on Boss or Adds, your call, if its kill Renauds, its by miss clicks

-> Never put "Steady" order command, Confident on your skills more, Practice will help you less error

With the strategy we're using, putting Garuda in the middle seems a bit complicated.

We're using the 2 SMN 1 Bard 1 Melee strategy, wherein the Boss is in the center, and all adds that will spawn will be in the center as well. As for Renaud's, basically we insta-bind him right after he spawn, and we'll just adjust accordingly. Feels less messy that way.

As for Garuda, I usually put her, say,

O - Garuda
A - Outer Circle

Making Garuda not hitted by Fireballs. As far as commanding Garuda, I just let her Attack the Boss all the time and just switch to Adds from time to time but not letting her stay idle without a Target. Basically, before the Adds die, I make sure that Garuda acquires a new target before her AI detects a random target.

The "Garuda will never bother Renauds if you put her on Boss all the time..." "use Obey that's it," is not always true. SE changed how Obey works and it now places your pet on *Guard* mode automatically (it didn't do this in the past).

I had an issue once where even when I spammed Obey on Melusine a Renaud spawned and red-targeted me before the bard could grab it (not fixation, just automatic hate), and was frozen the same moment it spawned. Garuda instantly switched and shot a wind blade on the Renaud despite me never switching targets or doing anything but Obey on Melusine.

The safest bet is to steady Garuda when it's about to be a frozen Renaud with cursed shriek, just to make sure he doesn't switch targets. Whether an add dies or you get red-targeted before fixation it's not worth the risk of wiping a run IMO just to get a few extra wind blades. The fight isn't a DPS race anyway and until they fix how Obey works (where Garuda would just idle when his original target died instead of automatically selecting a new one) I rather be paranoid and safe.

Ironically there's no point to the "guard" function as of now with the way they changed Obey.

Use Obey. However, don't jut press obey at the beginning; Press obey at the beginning while you're targeting the boss.Garuda will atk whoever you're currently targeting when you press obey and stay on that target until it's dead. So after you place your pet where you like, target melusine, wait for tank pull, press obey, andd voila, garuda will never atk anything besides melusine unless you order it to.

B/c my current grp places melusine in the center i left garuda at the side when I was going smn on the fight. I just stood away from it so it wouldn't get fireballed. Worked fine.

Did T7 for the first time today and was kiting as SMN. I've never once seen my Garuda switch to the Renauds. I saw this thread before we started coil last night and kept an eye on my Garuda. I set her to attack the boss with Obey and she stuck there
