Worth coming back?
Heya!
Played the first month and a half, but quit as I didn't like everyone taking advantage of the exploitful grouping system (can't remember the name, where there's a part of the map with a dynamic event).
Also, was levelling 2 classes, unfortunately the quests are character based, so the 2nd classes had to grind to get some xp. Hated that
Is the game any different now? Any major change I should be aware of?
Thanks!

The FATE levelling has all but died, XP in dungeons was boosted to make for a more job/role based levelling/learning curve.
Come back, We have pie!

But do people still grind FATEs like in the early days or do more questing/dungeons?
-
you must mean the days of the DD fate where ppl can get to 50 very very very easy lol that and also where everyone would only fate grind up levels leaving players searching forever to do story dungeons lol
those days are long gone.
People do fates, most are people Atma grinding. But there are people doing fates in between dungeon q's. also 40+ people still fate in corethas.
But the overall leveling comes from dungeons now.
lvl 47+ they arum vale 1st room farm for exp lol
You also get Duty Roulettes for bonus exp/help. Challenge log exp/gil rewards. Guildhest also got 1st time completions for all your jobs now.
There are multiple good ways to level now. I feel that it is worth coming back. If you never got really far, then there is no change thats noticeable other than the nerfing to fates (which you dont enjoy anyways). so welcome back.

Perfect reply, thanks for that.
Made it to 35ish on 2 classes, so I guess I have much to see.
See you in Eorza soon!

Re sub for two month, get to 50 for the story and check out Coil 1-5 then leave. The progression has turned into either mind numbing FATE grinds for mediocre upgrades to your relic weapon or you need to have a super helpful FC and/or Static to do Primal Ex's, and other harder contents. You can try your luck with party finder, but its a hit or miss. Unfortunately, mostly the later.

I do FATES for fun, for the Grand Company seals and for the little boost in XP. FATES sort of break the monotony of doing menial tasks for NPCs haha. When I'm partied with my healer we go smashing out quests and pretty much stop to join in on any FATE that interests us. They are fun. Which server you go on depends on how many people will be farming them, though. On Coeurl it was steady, on Tonberry (which I switched to) just about every FATE is farmed like crazy, which can sometimes be disappointing if you wanted to give it a go. Some FATEs also give unique rewards and achievements which is why I like doing them the most, I think.
Give it another go, research which server might be best for you, and see how it feels.

Enough other options for leveling have been added that FATEs have moved from a repetitive grind to a way to break up the grind. Instead of running FATE after FATE after FATE after FATE, you run a FATE or two while waiting on a dungeon group to form, or as you happen to come across them while you're out questing. At least, that tends to be the case while leveling.
The only big FATE grind left is Atma farming at end-game, but end-game has so much dungeon farming that it could probably use some farming that can occur on the open landscape. (This comment coming from someone who's avoiding getting to end-game, so don't trust this last point much. ;p)
