If any of you farm wind shards where would you say the best place to do it? Is there anyplace with a double yield and a extra attempt tree? Thanks.

Honestly, I don't pay too much attention...when I need shards, I just look for somewhere where the strikes will give me credit towards Luminary.
I'm going to presume that, as with almost everything else, Botany is just like Mining. If this is the case, no, there is no place in the game where you can get both an extra attempts node AND a double yield node. You'll see one or the other, but not both. The double yield nodes will be a level 30 point, the same set of points where you can find Crystals along with the Shards. Extra attempts nodes will be found almost everywhere else.
As Aedan says, though, if you want to obtain your Axe of the Luminary, you should use your Gathering Log to find nodes that have the crystals you want and also count towards your "A Botanist's Life For Me: Eorzea" achievement. Remember that only trees count towards this achievement, so the double yield nodes (always lush vegetation, I believe) will do you no good.
For wind shards and crystals (pre-50) I use the Central shroud ot the South path right next to the exit to South Shroud. If you have Home (or Free) teleport locaion in Gridania, teleport from there to FC Housing area (also for free), leave area vis ferry towards Central Shroud and you'll literarly few steps from the first tree there ;) For the LVL-50 use the East Shroud / Bramble batch - in Gridania teleport to Lancer's Guild, walk righ throug the gate to the free ferry and out of ferry a bit to east and up and you're there.
Lush vegetation strikes do count - it's the level of the node that matters. Double yields can come from both types of nodes (there is a mature tree in Central Thanalan that give double lightning shards). Double yields do not give double credit towards Luminary - it just counts the number of strikes you take.
I'd double-check that, if I were you - it's right there in the text of the Achievements you need to get: Log X times from level Y-Z Mature Trees. Gathering from Lush Vegetation will not advance this progress bar - only Mature Trees.
Again, this presumes that Botany works like Mining, as I can guarantee it's the case for mining. I discovered this sad fact early in my mining career, when I decided to sit down and grind out 1000 Wind Shards for my Goldsmith. While I was working, I thought to myself, "Boy, I'll make some serious progress in Shroud III!" After finishing up, I checked my progress. It hadn't advanced at all, and was still at something like 20/1000. Puzzled, I mined up a few more Shards, and still there was no change. I thought maybe Shards didn't count, and so mined up some Carbonized Matter and Pigment. Still nothing.
The problem was that I was mining at Rocky Outcrops (the mining equivalent to Lush Vegetation), and the achievement requirement specifically mentions Mineral Deposits (the mining equivalent to Mature Trees). Outcrops don't count toward the achievement. Deposits do. Since then, whenever mining shards, I make sure to target Mineral Deposits for achievement credit, in spite of the fact that I'd get a greater shard yield by targeting the Yield +1 nodes (which are always Rocky Outcrops).
I got the last achievement in La Noscea by gathering at the level 40-45 lush vegetation nod the whole time. All 4000 times. Not sure why you are telling people its only counting with logging? Trolling?
Perhaps I'm the one that needs to double check then. Or maybe it's different for Botanists. Or maybe it's changed during an update. Regardless, what I posted above is not an attempt to troll, but what I really remember happening. Hours spent farming shards at Rocky Outcrops, no change to Achievement progress.
If you are going to check, check the location you are mining/logging - Coerthas and Mor Dhona give no credit. In the 3 nations, it's the level of the node that determines your strike credit, not the level of the item gathered. If you already have the achievement for Black Shroud lv 21-30, then gathering wind shards at those nodes won't continue to give achievement credit, but moving to another level node (say 50) would give credit towards that achievement. This is the same for mature trees/lush vegetation and both types of mining nodes.
