As i played FFXIV today i finally realized what it was about this game that felt so odd. As a veteran FFXI player it feels to me as though this game came out pre FFXI and is what SE used to build FFXI. For example the market wards were not working on their own so they added a search function, which would eventually (in FFXI) turn into an auction house. They started with no chocobos and then added chocobos, they started with a loose job system that allowed you to create your own class which did not work very well so they moved into a rigid job system with standard point allotment. The weapon skills were bland and not exciting so they turned them into something that made you say wow. The zones were few and far between so they created a gigantic world that made you feel like you accomplished something when you move forward. Graphics aside this game seems as though it was the starting basis of FFXI, i'm just not so sure where SE went wrong but it seems like they took one giant leap back in time and are trying to pull themselves out of a hole that just may be too deep at this point.
Please feel free to share your comments do you get the feeling that FFXIV is more like a beta for FFXI?
