New White Mage need some advice

I finally got my WHM to 50 about a week ago. I haven't really had much trouble healing until I did T1 on my WHM trying to get some gear. I'm not exactly sure what I should be doing when I'm healing an 8 man, some healers yell at me when I heal the MT, some yell at me when I don't. T1 I seem to always have aggro on the split as soon as it happens and the tank can never get it off me. I don't ever have any hots up, i'm not throwing out a heal as it splits, I'm not doing anything that can cause me to pull it, but I always seem to do. Is it me? is the tank just not pulling in time?

also, any general tips that anyone has would help too, I've been healing off instinct and what I think is best atm.

If you aren't healing at the split and you don't have a HoT up, then that is all on the tank. The split happens at the same % of HP every time (I think it's 65 or 70%?) and when it is close to the split, the offtank needs to be prepping the first 2 hits of their combo so that right when the 2nd snake pops, they can slam it with the 3rd hit of their combo and get hate cemented on them immediately.

As far as people yelling at you for healing the MT, if you haven't discussed it ahead of time then there's no reason for them to be yelling at you. If you both have decided to split the healing between MT and OT, you REALLY should focus on the one you have to focus on. You are leaving your tank alone if you decide to heal the other one, which might cause a death in the Caduceus fight if you are unlucky. That said, I think tossing a Regen over to the other tank is perfectly fine after your tank is topped off.

If you plan on healing anyone else than your tank you need to top him off then put stone skin up on him. It'll buy you enough time to use divine seal + medica 2 & regen on the tank(s) & party.
You can also use virus before you briefly leave your tank alone.
When the split occurs i used to save shroud just so that when they split both pre aggro accumulated on both snakes from healing the mt before will be significantly lower.
But that was when my gear wasn't i90/100 and there was no echo.
When i tried T1 again post 2.2 i was surprised how easy aggro management was.
I tried to spam so hard but my hate only went up to yellow at most :0.
The tank had lower gear than me soooo idk :p

At the beginning of a raid, confirm with your other healer who is healing who. For my runs, SCH usually focuses on main tank(s) and WHM will raid heal.

Mid-fight you shouldn't be pulling hate off of the tank, that's likely just him being sucky.

thank you guys so much for the help. Glad to know it's not me when it comes to the split, I never thought of using shroud during the split, in hindsight it probably could have prevented a wipe. You guys really helped me figure out things I can be working on to make my healing better

Medica II is a marvellous skill during T1. If you don't have a SCH who can micro manage EoS to heal people shot by goop, use HoTs.

Enmity during split can be a problem.
Avoid HoT's around 50%
Use SoS
RUN. You can kite the snake reasonably well if required.

Cure 1 only
Regen on both tanks
10% hp remaining, start using Divine Seal
PoM
Eventually Cure II spam for last 5%.

I've been fortunate enough to not have problems with tanks on T1, except pugs that don't meet the accuracy cap, but you've probably already lost if that's the case...

As you've seen, the damage is really spikey on this fight. Really prioritize tanks over DPS even if DPS are pretty low. The attacks do have a rhythm you'll get over time, and having a DPS bait the tail can provide that moment of relief you need to regen a DPS or whatever.

For the split, I work out with the other healer which tank we'll each focus on. After that... trust the other healer, only toss an extra cure II the other tank's way when you've learned the attack pattern well and are certain a 3500 + 2000 dmg attack combo isn't coming for the next 2.5 seconds, for example.

But for the split, mostly just stay on your tank. The damage from the snakes goes up a lot over time so don't let that catch you unprepared. DS + regen on the tank during a lull in the attacks, but don't be afraid to DS for C2 spamming either when you need to...
(DPS also can't go entirely without healing, so learning the rhythm of the fight, when those lulls come so you can regen them, is important...)

...I haven't done this since the echo buff so possibly it is more forgiving now, but the concepts should be about the same...

Edit: I don't recommend cure I only..; you really don't want to underestimate the damage of Caduceus or you could very easily end up with a dead tank. But before the split you shouldn't need many cure IIs with the other healer, and definitely use cure I whenever you can get away with it... Unless it's been nerfed or echo is that powerful...

Posts above pretty much summed it up. Just to be cautious throw a Shroud upon split and try to heal when Tank full on grabbed enmity of the snake. Also discuss healing roles before you begin with your co-healer.

As the fight progresses healing might need to get intense, so don't hesitate to use Cure 2, really, just be mindful of your mp and use shroud on regular basis along with divine seal.

Does medica 2 and regen stack?
