Client and Patch Downloads

Welcome to the year 2011. All MMORPGs except 1 have their client and patches available to download on their website instantly for their customers. Whom might this one MMORPG be? Why it's Final Fantasy XIV.

FFXIV is finally changing to the better for a lot of players. You're adding in new content, fixing some problems and making the game more enjoyable. At the same time you wish for your previous players to come back and start playing again. Now if a player does come back, first they have to re-install off the DVD for 15 minutes and then watch it does patches after patches to get to the latest client. Or if lets say a person who received a guest pass no longer has access to the DVD(like myself) I can't come back because I can't download it. So while I do wish to play again and see how the game is now and if it's playable, I can't. I have no method of getting the client unless I do some random person's "hotfile.com/rapidshare.com/etc" upload of the client which could contain viruses. Not to mention since those sites have download limits, it will take me a few days to complete.

You wish for this game to succeed but yet don't have any method of past customers to get the client if they wish to come back. They are forced to find that DVD they may have trashed in anger due to the poor launch of the game. If in my case, guest pass, I'm screwed.

I hope this is fixed quickly; if returning to the game is too complex, people just won't do it.

Yup exactly. I go back regularly to MMOs when I have more free time due to my crazy schedule of randomness and just having a simple download client link works so well. But right now I can't get the client and SE support says there is no other way besides DVD. I also don't get why they force people to take down their hosted version of the DVD, it's not like getting it is a bad thing. So I'm just waiting, checking every so often to see if I can download the client to come back but I'm pretty close to giving up.
