The Nail

Haven't seen a post for this anywhere else, but does anyone know anything about the object sticking out of the mountain in the middle of Coerthas?

While I haven't paid it much attention other than passing curiosity near launch, I happened to be looking at it while running to a FATE the other day and it looks like a significantly larger portion of it has been exposed.

Without many screenshots from earlier patches to use as a point of reference, I can't be 100% sure, but regardless of that, has anyone seen or heard any information/speculation on just what exactly it is?

It's clearly a piece of Dalamud, just like the chunk at Fallgourd Float in the North Shroud, the piece at the Burning Wall in Eastern Thanalan, and the piece surrounded by an arcing crystal field in the Singing Shards in Mor Dhona.

I don't know if it's clearly one of those fragments. In the Coil storyline, they don't refer to Coerthas as one of the regions where a piece was discovered, and it seems structurally different from all of the other pieces except maybe the one in the North Shroud (rounded as opposed to straight and rigid.) Though that is the most likely explanation, I just can't remember a point where it was definitively known to be a piece of Dalamud.

Ah yes, but there's only two sections of the Binding Coil currently accessible - if you go to Boulder Downs which is near the Nail you can clearly see a smaller section of Dalamud sticking out of the snow in the middle of the reddish crystal structure (it's a brownish block-like structure with blue glowing 'power' lines on it, similar to the Allagan technology seen in the Coils, and on the pieces of Dalamud in the North Shroud and Northern Thanalan).

That whole structure didn't exist in 1.0 Coerthas so it's clearly from Dalamud.

You're right, I forget about that piece being located in the crater because there's not much there to see if you're just passing by. Though I expect the entrance to the Third Coil is going to be in the Burning Wall, what with such a massive section exposed and an apparent entry point plus path leading to it already visible. My only question then is if the fragment sticking out of the Nail really does appear far larger now than in earlier patches.

I thought it was a Garlean airship. I haven't looked in a while, but the architecture looks Garlean and the main story mentions those shipwrecked Garleans in Coerthas.
