Question about Egi control

First a small back story. I took a few months off from this game until the beginning of last month at which point I switched to a new server since I had a friend who was playing now so I'm basically levelling from the beginning (didn't want to pay $18 to transfer a character). I stopped playing mid December which was around when 2.1 came out and I'd play mainly as a SCH and I remember the pet mechanics changing a bit.

I promised myself I'd go DPS this time around so I'm trying to get my ACN to SMN and I was wondering how good the pet mechanics are for SMN's as opposed to SCH's. As a SCH I remember I'd keep my pets on Obey, allow Eos (or Selene) to use Embrace and what not on their own and micromanage their cooldowns. As a SMN would I need to do the same thing (Obey and micromanage cooldowns) or is Sic the commonly used mode for Egis right now?

SiC = let's pet do everything on its own will (Free Action)

Obey = Limited pet's action, use only basic action such Embrace and Normal Attack only, need excution command to excuse some action

Obey results in higher DPS as long as you're micromanaging the egi properly. Go obey.

Always obey...always.
Contagion is much more useful in your hands allowing you to control the DOTs.
Macro your Bane and Garuda's Aerial Slash you will get a nice little bonus AOE at the best possible time.

Since I have changed my outlook at being a SMN I have changed the way I DPS.

I have become a lot more aggressive in my play style.
Buffing with Raging Strikes. Cast Shadow Flare, full "base" DOTs (Bio2, Miasma, Bio), running in casting Ruin 2, Miasma 2 is now ready and cast up close and personal. Contagion is cast and rushing out casting another Ruin 2 on the run. If it is a mob then Bane is cast right after Contagion.
Fester is ready and waiting and a few Ruin/Ruin 2 to top it off.

Garuda should be on Obey at all times. Otherwise, Ifrit on Sic is great when you're clearing trash.

When you're fighting bosses in large areas and you need to move your pet out of range, use Place then stay or the pet will move right back to the boss after you place it.

Yah I remember when I was SCH I'd have to place my fairy to get the best heals out of her as well as micromanaging her cooldowns and keeping her on obey... so basically it all sounds about the same. I think the placing thing was fixed with fairies at some point though, apparently it was broken?

Anyway thanks for the tips!! Im just at 27 now... life without bane is aweful...
