Titan Ex Gaol Theory

In my experiences I've noticed the gaol mechanic traps (obviously) one healer and one DPS...and oddly enough, as far as I can tell, it's the DPS with the least amount of TP/MP (proportion wise).

I can't confirm this, obviously, but I've noticed when a character is KOd, they always get gaoled upon being raised, where they have low TP. When I see monks going all out with the GL3 they tend to get stuck in gaol, etc.

Anyone wanna try confirming this? Not that it would change any strategy, but just to know more or less what's going on. Maybe it's even the same mana wise with the healers? Who knows :P

I always felt like it picks the top enmity amongst healers and the top enmity amongst DPS. I only say this because I see WHM and Melees get goaled more than any other jobs.

This makes sense, very much so, except I'm not sure why then it would target a recently KOd character...however a monk that's blazing through their TP likely means they have dished out tons of DPS, getting top aggro. Just not sure why then it would gaol a recently KOd character.

If my theory is true, it would be a forgiving mechanic, which quite a lot of fights actually do have. Give a character a chance to catch up on TP/Mana. It hardly makes a difference but I'm almost positive there is something behind who he chooses for gaol.

Before anyone says it's just random, I highly acknowledge that's a probability; I'm just stating that in my experience I have seen a pattern eery time and I have cleared him a few times...and attempted him many more.

It certainly isn't top enmity of the DPS since I've been gaoled so many times in a fight that there is no way I was matching the rest of the DD. I can't say for certain since I can't see others' TP, but when you get gaoled multiple times in a fight, your tp (as a Dragoon) is going to be very high and yet, from personal experience, continue to get gaoled. It might have something to do with who has done the most damage/healing in between gaols though. This is just a random guess and assuming there is any rhyme or reason to it.

Edit: Thinking about it more, it would make sense because there has to be some way for the servers to pick one healer and one DD every time. I don't think they've ever done a fight where someone is targeted specifically because of the job they are, but rather because of the actions they have done in the encounter.

It's not top DPS/HPS or top aggro for the DPS/Heal that's for sure. In my titan runs with my FC last weekend, I did most DPS by far but I only got gaol like once. Also if the top aggro thing was a thing, a Scholar would never be gaol when there's a White Mage.

It's burst damage at a specific point in time. DPS can get consistent gaol if they burn through their CDs near the phase point.

It is most likely similar to weights where he has a hidden check status point, before cast.

A bunch of fights do it now. Examples:

Garuda EX: Healers are always targeted by Garuda's Friction (the one with no AoE tell)
Titan EX: Gaols target one DPS and one Heal
Ifrit EX: Searing Howl only targets Heals; chain Eruptions only target 2 DPS (think the Eruptions during Nails can target anyone but #1, but not 100% on that; it may have another targeting parameter)
Levi EX: the whirlpool things target Healers only
Turn 7: Cursed Voice targets one Heal, Tank and DPS. Cursed Shriek targets a Heal or DPS. The Flame AoE prioritizes ranged DPS first, then melee DPS (if <2 rDPS), then Heals and Tanks (though at this point its a wipe, so whatever)


There are fights that have mechanics based on enmity (many fights have mechanics ignoring #1); some examples
Turn 5: #1 and #2 on Twin ignore Conflags, Fireballs and Dreads.
Levi EX: Top enmity on Tail gets Briny Mirror
Titan EX: Top enmity ignores Plumes and Landslides, unless there are too few targets (people dead)

Actually targets #2, which should usually be the person OTing at the time unless they died right before and haven't had to establish hate again yet.

I'll disagree with this one. I've been farming the heck out of leviathan since he's been released. Many, many occasions I've been targeted by the whirlpool/bomb things as melee dps.
