Bard and other classes
Hey folks,
FF14 its my first MMO and I love it! so I am a little noob here, dont be so rude with my noob question here lol ...
Yesterday I became a Bard, okay... Now I can cross a few skills with PGL and LNC... Basically the game forces you to play with other classes to reach your goal to make a high end char.. In my case, PGL and LNC...
My question is: Can I became any class that I want to with a single char?? Like Bard, Dragoon? Just need to join the respective guild and up the class and their jobs? If so, whats de deal with "standard subscription"? (I mean the "standard subscription" allowing 8 characters) play in other worlds?

Yes. You can level any and every class/job to 50 on the same character.
Reasons some people make alts:
Different race.
Different starting class to see the 3 cities' starter stories.
Getting around daily/weekly lockouts (which are pretty much all per-character, not per-class; when you're locked to 450 soldiery tomes a week, gearing up multiple classes in soldiery gear becomes a bit of a stretch).
Expanded inventory (You can't mail your own characters, but you can join the same FC and use the FC bank or get a trusted friend to pass things back and forth).
Because they can.

Basically, yes you can, via the Armoury System. And yes all you have to do is go to the guild of the class you want to unlock, and ask to join. Then you can just switch to that class whenever you want by simply equipping the weapon (or tool) for that class.
Multiple character slots are more for people that want to play as different character races, and even that you can do on one character now, with the Fantasia and everything. So really, extra characters are more now for people who want to experience each starting city's storyline, even though all three are fundamentally the same, and all three storylines do unite around level 15 too, making it only a short term thing. But then, some people just like having alts I guess. :p

In my case, I created three characters in order to see the storylines of all three starting cities. My original plan was that I would take them all up to the point where the storylines merge, and then choose a favorite to continue on the rest of the game with. The problem with that plan was that I got pretty attached to each of them and can't seem to choose a favorite. So now I've got three characters that I'm advancing through the whole game with. (I only wish it were easier to transfer items back and forth, so I could designate one of my characters to do the crafting for all of them.)
