Oh, look, someone who's jumping to conclusions before finishing the quest line.
Cool.
I am so infuriated that I have to fetch dinner party items at level 30 for story quests
Do you even read the actual dialogue? There's a method to that madness, in that the Company of Heroes lost so many of their members to Titan five years previously, they know how utterly dangerous he is, and so want to test that your character really has it in them, in not just body, but spirit. Yes it does drag on a bit, but lets face it, this is actually what an adventurer does. They do anything for money, they're a 'jack-of-all-trades' - fighting is simply one part of their resume.
Adventurers who aren't altruistic, and willing to help out people in need, even if it's somewhat inconsequential with little reward, usually end up as nothing but thinly disguised mercenaries (who have a very bad reputation in Eorzea). There's far more to adventuring then just tromping through a dungeon slaughtering everything and everything, and the Company of Heroes/Titan story arc shows that.
Enkidoh, I love you.
