1.0 returning player - joining guilds

I haven't played since 1.0 and I am using my original character that is now a level 27 conjurer. When I go to my guild it does not give me a quest so that I can join the guild nor will it allow me to join. I cannot join any other guilds, because it says I need to finish the level 10 starting class of my original job. I even tried other guilds to no avail.

I have searched on the internet for the appropriate name of the quest(s) and I do not have it in my quest log. Any ideas?

Have you done any of the main scenario quests? One of the first quests you get in the main scenario sends you to your starting class' guild, and I believe you need to go through that first.

I am on level 20 of the main story line. Are there seperate quests that I perhaps missed?

The very first main story quest (or maybe 2nd) should have sent you to the guild for whatever class you selected as your starting class when you re-entered the game (not at all related to any of your other classes). If you're that far along in the main story, you must have done that quest at some point, though I can't recall if you can skip the job guild part.

Given that Lodestone lists you as a level 1 Arcanist, I suspect you chose ACN as your "starting" class when you joined back up. Is the Arcanist's guild one of the guilds you've already tried?

I haven't tried arcanist yet. I'll post back and see if that is the thing that I need to do. Thanks!

That was the key to this whole puzzle. I never selected arcanist so I'm not sure why it threw me that way. Thanks again!

Note to anyone else that has an issue make sure you equip your arcanist tool or you can't get the quest.

You need to do the lv 10 class quest of the class with which you started ARR before you can join another guild.

As a 1.0 character there was first the character creation part of the old class where you could change the appearance of the character, his name, the server and you also choose here with which class you want to start. Maybe it was on Arcanist as default and you didn't see it.

It should also be noted that for a 1.0 character, things are a little confusing in regards to the Armoury System. A 1.0 character transferred into ARR has all the exp and levels you had in 1.0, and thus you are allowed to switch between any class and Job you already had unlocked in 1.0 or had exp in.

Despite what SE stated on this page, the Armoury System is actually not fully unlocked for a 1.0 player at the start. You can only switch to a class or Job you already have exp in (such as when I started in ARR my 1.0 character only had exp in GLA and CNJ so I could only switch between those two classes initially until I did the level CNJ class quest).

Hence if you try switching to another class that you didn't bother levelling in 1.0, you won't be able to. You have to play through the class quests of the Guild for the class you decided to start ARR with to the level 10 one where the Armoury System in unlocked and then join the guild of the class you want to switch to, like for a new player. This point is rather confusing because of how SE worded it somewhat misleadingly on the Lodestone.

There's somewhat of a rule of thumb in regards to starting ARR as a 1.0 character - basically, 'if you didn't unlock it/gain it in 1.0, you can't start ARR with it.' (This rule also applies to things such as mounts and retainers too).
