Sorry...I'm on Hades server and am not sure if it's possible to change servers or if I have to stay on this one.

You can change servers but it's a paid service to do so (it's called the 'World Transfer Service and can be found on a link here: http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...ption_service/)
As for you first question, a good place to start if you're looking for a guild to join (player guilds are called 'Free Companies' here, or 'FC's for short), is the forum for your server, which for Hades is here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/805-Hades I'm sure you'll find a linkshell or Free Company there that is recruiting new members. :)

If you don't mind creating a new character or transferring servers you can also check out the other recent posts about new players looking for free companies. You should also keep in mind what time zone the players are in or what their active play times are.
Otherwise check out the Hades section of the forums like Enkidoh suggested. You won't be able to post a thread there until your main character is level 25 but you can get an idea of the free companies and how they advertise / what they are looking for.
