Do I need the physical copy of the disc to get PS4 upgrade?

I'm getting a PS4 tonight and trading in some games. Can I trade the copy of FFXIV, or do I need it to get my free PS4 upgrade?

I don't think they would take it anyway. It comes with a serial that is tied to your account; Anyone who bought it would be screwed over. Morally, you should not even try to trade it in.

Keep it for now, and if you find yourself not needing it, sell it on ebay or craigslist with a clear, big footnote: Replacement disc only, does not come with CD Key!
