Retainers on the go! Could they possibly get technologically advanced?

Just had the thought that it would be kind of fun, convenient and really wild to be able to send your retainers out on exploration from your mobile device.

Log in to your FF XIV account and send them on their way during the day while you can't play. They could use their "linkshell" communication device in-game to talk with your mobile device.

Just make sure you have open inventory space before you log off for the night!

And if you're at work and someone asks you what you are doing on your [mobile device], look at them with a straight face, pause, and say, "I'm working with my retainers, of course. Would you like a free wall?"

They will just tell you to buy a PS Vita

I can't remember where I saw it, but someone had modded their phone to play FFXIV. If you're just sending out your retainer, shouldn't be too hard. I would imagine though that you would want to choose a retainer spot logout point that isn't heavily populated. Maybe Mist?

Only of we keep them from becoming self-aware.. They must never know!!

I remember seeing that as well, though I'm pretty sure they made the phone a monitor to play the game. Phones wouldn't be able to play XIV natively taking into account hardware needed to actually run the game, a client built/converted to run on Android/iOS, and the need to access the servers.

yeah, I found the reddit thread. it was basically connecting to their home desktop.

I have a feeling that this feature might end up coming along with access to retainers/market board via app that was mentioned a while back. I just wonder if they're gonna stick in-app purchases in there as well (5 ventures for 2 dollars!).
