Hey there.
I've been getting some Allagon coins for the rewards on some of my quests. I've also heard some stuff about Allagon equipment. Are the two related in any meaningful way? Do you need Allagon coins to get Allagon equipment?
Thanks.

They're not related.
Ok. Thanks. Just didn't want to be selling them if they were actually useful as anything other than getting gill.
You sell them to vendors or stores for gil and that is all they are for.
No - they're just an alternative "currency" - simply sell them to NPCs for their face value. There was a post about this recently explaining the lore behind the Allagain coin pieces. Alwasy make my laugh when people try to sell those on market boards ...
They actually sell them on the market boards because people transferring servers will buy them to "store" their gil since you can only transfer a set amount when you switch servers.
If you buy a piece worth 100 gil for 100 gil, you can just sell it to a NPC when you get to the new server. So you can potentially have millions of gil stored as Allagan pieces that will be transferred over and doesn't rely on any sort of economic differences between them.
Yes - I know that - what I was talking about though are people selling them at their face value thus effectivelly loosing the 5% tax on them instead of flogging them to NPCs.
Also you may not have anything for sale on the market board when using the world transfer service. So no you won't be able to temporarily fool the system that way.
