Can't use keybinds at all. Please help

So I don't know what is up with chat, but I can't use keybinds at all because it just goes into chat
Like say I'm trying to use my hotbar, so I hit 2, but it just opens the chatbox and I end up typing "22222" instead of attacking with the 2nd spell
I try using the other keybinds and the letters just end up in chat
I have clicked out of the window
I have hit enter to try to clear it
I have typed something out and hit enter
I have hit esp multiple times
I have logged out and back in
And I have even restarted the game

I've been having to click-fight everything and go through actions and windows the long way since none of my shortcuts or keybinds will work

It is driving me nuts and I can't figure out how to get it to stop or how to disable chat

sounds like you've got the Direct Chat on. turn it off by going to the start menu and Character Configure. When you open it up says "Enable Direct Chat" on the list near the top, make sure the box is not yellow.

Oh thank god. Yeah that was it. I have no clue at all how it got turned on since hadn't even been in that window, but at least if it happens again I know to check for it. Thanks so much

no problem. simple fix once you find someone that's seen that option

It's on by default if you select Controller controll scheme instead of KB+M one.
