Venture Question, help appreciated.

Not sure where to put this, but I'm still a relatively new player so here we go.

I have a retainer I want to be a miner, but I hadn't started miner yet so I picked it up real quick so I could make my retainer a miner as well. I sent her on 2 ventures before I noticed she's not leveling up, and her "max level" for miner is 1. Thinking it mirrored mine, I went out and got mining to level 7 (and did my level 5 quest) on my character. But her max level is STILL 1.

My BTN is 50, and my BTN retainer's max level is 50. So what has to happen to make my mining retainer's max level go up?

You need to level your Miner more - I've noticed that as well last night when sending out retainers on my alts to ventures that their max level is about 5 levels bellow the current max level of the alt's classes. Basically systems prevents you from acessing anything on / via your retainers which you've not yet unlocked on your character / class.

It's possible their may be slight padded cap between player max and retainer max if under 50.

I cant remember exactly but im pretty sure, my BTN is 22 and my retainers max is 18 so leads me to think their may be 4-6 levels needed between retainer and player to get xp, the first venture always levels them up to level 3 so keep that in mind.
obviously we're in maint and it's just a suggestion but its food for the thought.

also as Hec has stated, you cant harvest things you haven't done so yet but that would stop you even attempting to send them off.

So, what on the face of it is a system that mimics SW:TOR's mechanic of having 'crew' NPCs go out and forage and get stuff, turns out to be a kind of 'bot' for players who already leveled DoH/DoL.

Shame, I had hoped it was something useful.

It says in one of the in-game help screens that comes up when first unlocking retainer ventures and classes that your retainer can't exceed your own level in a class. It doesn't mention there being a few levels of gap where they can't quite reach your level either, but that seems to be the case.

Actually it's DoW/DoM/DoL. They can't do any crafting, just gather either DoL items or mob dropped items.

I started with the exploration ventures that take 18 hours, so they're not done yet and I'm not sure how much I'll get, but the shorter alternative is they can gather 5 items in a one-hour venture. For DoL ventures, if gathering those same items yourself, you'd get more than that from a single node which takes only a few seconds to mine/harvest. Even the adventuring one (5 animal skins in 1 hour is the level 1 venture) is such a trivial return for the time that it's meaningless. Basically the only way the ventures gain you anything is if they get one of these rare otherwise-unobtainable items that the patch notes talked about.

So you're sending them out on a mission that the vast majority of the time will be completely useless, but which has a slim chance of getting you something good. I guess it'll appeal to the same sort of people who enjoy gambling. The rest of us will do it a few times just for the novelty of a new feature having been added, but that's probably it.

Actually, my favorite part is that we can now give our retainers gear. I didn't much like the default retainer uniform they all had to wear until now, so mine are now wearing outfits that look nicer.

I just hope my Arcanist retainer can wear my AF when she hits 50 :)

well that and I wish i could take her out to fight with me instead of the dumbest bird on the planet.
