So, you've been hearing about that FFXIV relaunch for a while now. You've heard good things, and bad things, but it looks like a game you want to try out. You figure it's been out for 6 months now, and they've probably gotten most of the major bugs worked out of it by now. You figure, yeah, sure, I've got the day off, a few extra bucks, I guess I'll give it a try. You buy the game, install it, get all set up and...

Sounds like bad luck. If you had logged on a day earlier or a day later, you would've been able to play a little bit.

I'd feel bad for him over the fact that he should have noticed that the 2.2 patch was doing on today.

I feel way worse for all of us that have had a taste and have been yearning for new content/improvements for a long time. New guy doesn't know what he's missing, so he doesn't miss it.

I see SE is continuing to excel at not keeping up with industry standards. Major content 'patches' from CCP are done within an hour. Even Blizzard can push within a six hour window.

SE just wastes everyone's time, then extends downtime because they spent most of it goofing off or not actually having a testing process for deployment.

Actually it's because they said they were changing the servers infrastructure on how it handles duties and resets, or something along those lines

This reminds me of when it released on steam. Literally a day or two before they had one of those extended maintenances lol. It is what it is.

You can also look at it like this

Would you rather have a 25 hour maint or...

a 6 hour maint and a 5 hour extension, and a 5 hour extension and a 5 hour extension and a 5 hour extension.

Better to be safe than sorry, the latter will infuriate people more than the former.
