Character Alterations
At some point, we need the ability, even if it's a paid service, to alter our characters, race/gender/etc... Understandably we could put a limit on certain changes, but some things, hair changes/skin tones/eye colors/etc.. should be at the discretion of the player, in an exchange for gil, or whatever currency, tomes for ex. to change at will. Race changes could be applied under a paid service as being able to change race for certain jobs that change the attributes of said job is understandable. I feel we should at least be given the opportunity to change race tho,if so desired.

What you are looking for is "Fantasia" and yes we are getting this.

As Amy mentioned, the special item 'Fantasia' actually allows this - one is automatically given to you after you subscribe for a certain length of time (two months if I remember rightly), however if you had a version 1.0 account you were also sent a second one (because some 1.0 players mucked up remaking their character at the start of ARR service). A Fantasia once used will allow you to recreate most of your character (except name, server, nation, birthdate and I think Guardian) the next time you login to the game once only.
A greatly toned-down version of Fantasia is a function in the game called the 'aesthetician', which is unlocked via a quest in Limsa Lominsa at level 20 I think, but they're basically just a hairdresser that only allows you to change your character's hairstyle, hair colour and certain physical attributes for gil, and not race, gender, clan, etc - only the Fantasia does that. Apparently SE will be allowing Fantasias to be purchasable for real money through the Mogstation in the future, but there's no information about when that will be I'm sorry.
