I've played a bit before but I don't have any friends that play on here which is why I kinda stopped playing but I really love FF games and I wanna get back into it. I still need to learn the system and such. My current character is a lvl 20 Arcanist and lvl 8 Thaumaturge. I am currently working to become a Summoner. I would love ANY advice as well as friends to group up with or a nice guild that would be helpful :).

The way the early game is designed, it specifically helps guide the player through new content as it becomes available, so you should be ok by just taking time to read the help windows as they appear. As you want to become SMN though, taking the time to level THM would definitely be a good thing, as THM is the necessary second class needed to unlock SMN, and it has to be at level 15 for that.
In fact, it would be very helpful to take it to at least level 26, for an ability called 'Swiftcast' which ACN and SMN can cross-class. This ability is extremely useful for all mage classes, and for SMN it means if your summon gets killed, you can simply pop Swiftcast and instantly resummon your pet, cutting down on a lot of time and bother. :) But really, just take your time and have fun with your class and Job.
As for your FC query, unfortunately I play on Ridill so I can't give you an invite to my FC and ls sadly, but the next best thing is to take a look in the forum section for you server for a nice ls or FC that help newer players, which can be found here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/831-Exodus
If you want other players to play with, re-post this on the Exodus server forum.

Also getting skype/mumble/teamspeak will all help you enjoy the game even more so than you already do :D
