If another 'support' class is added, would you like it done in the same fashion

as Bard?

Like how ylthe Bard can keep up with and exceed the other DPS classes if he CHOOSES to devote his time for that, but with buffs good enough to sacrifice time/DPS for in major fights? I don't know I'm just really liking the way Bard was handled. A support isn't needed 100% of the time but it doesn't have to feel gimp if forced do nothing but to DPS in something like a 4 man dungeon.

I'd really like to see Red Mage handled in this same manner.

And besides, I believe Bard was one of the hardest jobs to find in FFXI, even moreso than a tank or Whitemage. Making a job that does nothing but buff/debuff and adding a mandatory support to the Duty Finder would only make the queue times even more hellish.

redmage can't debuff seeing blm and whm doesn't have any debuffs. they have no spells of their own.

Redmage having no exclusive spells of it's own hasn't been the case for a long time now.

Red Mage, if they actually decide to implement it in this game would honestly make a better melee DPS than a caster. I see it being more like a melee Bard, with some other focus rather than refreshing.

Red Mage sounds like fun!

I agree that, with how the game is set up, a pure support job wouldn't work well. I could easily see something like Red Mage bringing Phalanx, En-spells, Bar-spells, debuffs and melee attacks to the table.

Well first of all... If you are getting out DPS by a bard... then...
Secondly, There's a problem with support classes by themselves. Either they will be necessary for every fight (and every party must include one or else they will be gimped), or completely useless and no one will bother because it's better to replace with a DPS. The developers have chosen to slit support abilities among all DPS, so that they all have utility. For example, monk can mantra, stun and silence (and slow i guess). Dragoon can slow and stun. BLM can lethargy, sleep, etc. Bard can silence and regain TP, MP, and lower resistances. They choose to have the classes with the most DPS have the least amount of utility, and the classes with the least dps (i.e. bard) have the most utility so that they will still be chosen, but all classes have it.
