Help with obtaining Materia?

I wanted to begin getting Materia for my Botanist because, you know, why not? Plus, I'm going on huge long haul to get the Luminary Axe (12,000 gathering attempts to go..!...>_>) so I might as well do something with that time.

Anyway... Does anyone have a spreadsheet or knowledge of how to get all the Gatherer Materias? I can only assume it's like, generic level 50 crafted armor, but it wouldn't hurt to know for sure. Plus, would just getting rings and stuff be better? I don't have a GSM, but I was thinking that would be my next craft anyway (Don't have Weaver either btw). So any help?

As for what gear drops the materia, I have no spreadsheet but ilvl 55 gatherer equipment can drop tier IVs, and the tiers I through III are dropped from other gathering gear of various levels (gear that has Perception, Gathering, or GP on it). As far as I can tell, any piece of gatherer gear can drop any type of gatherer materia; you won't, for example, always get GP materia from rings.

If you want to craft your own accessories, Leatherworker is the best DoH to level, as that craft provides rings, neck, and waist for gatherers (Goldsmith provides wrist and earrings). Leatherworker is also useful for crafting many pieces of gatherer head/body/hand/legs/feet gear.

If I were to do it again, I'd get LTW so i could make myself some of the gear... NQ is fine. I'd meld it with whatever materia I had, and spiritbond my first set(s) so I could make better materia. In the meantime I'd also want to get GSM, WVR and CRP to 50 so I could easily make my next set HQ (and use that nice materia I made myself).

I have noticed that HQ gear spiritbonds quicker.

HQ makes an item spirit bond about 20% faster. In addition, adding materia makes spirit binding occur faster as well.

As to how to get gathering materia, keep this in mind - you can spirit bind gathering accessories on your combat classes. This can save you a lot of time.
