in the last patch, I lost materia melded to some of my gathering gear, I didn't think much about it, until I tried mining for darksteel, and noted I now have no chance of gathering HQ ore. Did I miss something in the patch notes?

After the patch that allowed you to still load a template without the same main-hand, I've noticed that spirit-bond % will wander from item to item (identical items only). I am 100% sure about this; what I'm not sure of is that material are wandering as well.
Make sure that you never have two of the exact same item in your armory chest, to avoid this from happening.
