The reason I am bringing this topic up is because this causes confusion across the server on multiple levels:

1. Recruitment. If someone is looking to join a specific free company that they may have either heard about through word-of-mouth, partied with an existing free company member (but forgot their name), or by reading the server specific forums. Without proper research they could join the wrong one.

2. Harassment. Someone could potentially harass another player, and the harassed may be confused as to which free company actually committed the harassment. Possibly reporting information to GMs that could potentially affect a free company.

3. Respect and integrity. If one free company that shares the same name as another free company decides to be less respectable to players in-game it could cause another free company with the same name to feel the backlash and repercussions of the dis-respectable free company.

Square-Enix,

As a member of the respected and established free company, Warriors of Light, on the Diabolos server since 9/4/2013; we would like for you to consider changing the attributes and requirements for which a player can register a free company name.

Please do not allow someone to register a free company name that already exists on that server! It should not matter if the name is entirely capitalized, lower-case, a combination of upper & lower-case, or correctly capitalized. Once a name is taken it should NOT be permitted to be used or registered again.

Please consider changing the rules for free company name registration so that future and existing free companies do not need to worry about the aforementioned complications.

This same issue affected an FC I used to be in too. I second your motion to have this addressed!

Completely disappointed that SE discounted this issue, and moved it to the suggestion section. The game does not recognize duplicate Free Company names. This is an issue, not a suggestion.

I would really like to see this resolved to remedy the situation of duplicate Free Company names.

How you you propose they solve it? They cant implement renaming, and then still, who would have to do that? There's just no acceptable fix for it.

Is it anoying? Sure.
It it game breaking? Absolutely not.

Unless you are huge and special no one is going to seriously be refered to your FC since you're just one of the many many many FC's out there. There's little to no confusion. If anything, you wont even run into the people carrying duplicate names, you wont even recognize anyone with the same FC name because the Tags are diffirent entirely.

Now what -is- anoying is duplicate Company Tags on two or more large companies. Those show up next to your name and are for everyone to see. And most of all, those are easily confused. There's easily 5 Free Companies walking around with "Kupo" in their tag. 4 of those dont even have anything remotely to do with moogles, the 5th one does but isnt called anything it would abbreviate into... Just anoying.

Anyhow, long story short. Cant be changed, because someone will have to pick a side and end up changing their names. I dont feel SE has the means, time and desire to police all the FC's and their names.

Implement the same programming logic that they used when a person registers a character's name. Have you ever tried to register a name that someone already has registered to a character? You can't register a name already taken no matter what combination of Upper and Lower case you try to utilize. They obviously have character name registration programming setup to recognize "toupper" or "tolower" commands. Which means it can be done and corrected.

This logic holds no water based on the fact that you have discounted the main issue due to Free Company size. The issues the OP brought up still remains whether a Free Company has 30 members or 300 members.

OP already commented on this. This is also an easy programming fix so that Company Tags' characters are recognized whether they are Upper case or Lower case.

Might I recommend this: Implement the programming change that I mentioned above (which already works for character names), then allow the Free Company that had the name registered first (by date of course), keep the name and provide an option to the other Free Companies to change their name.

This is correctable. We just need to keep an open mind about how programming logic can work.

I don't understand why this is allowed either.

I first noticed when our FC tag word started showing up on non-members' nameplates. Most people probably don't know their choice of tag is already taken, but it's becoming more common, even for far less common words than "Kupo". There might not be much SE can do for similar tags ("Kupo!" is different than "Kupo?" or "Kupo"), but identical tags and names (even if different in capitalization) really need to be prohibited.

Bump for justice. Happened on Jenova today with another person duplicating our fc tag letters. Server went up in April and we've been an fc since May.

Also disallow use of symbols before or after the same core letters. ie -lux- and lux

I feel we are being trolled which wouldnt be the first time on this server.
