Question! ^^
Hiya,
Haven't touched this title since day 2 of release, but came across it today while cleaning my room and the thing that made me just not play it was the slow response in controls and stuff, having been a close to 6yr player in XI, boring gameplay wasn't an issue with me just the interface was horrible =(
Was wondering before I sit here and use up HDD space if this was fixed. . .I know it might be somewhere in patch notes but I wanted to get the opinion of the community that plays it. I'm really feeling this game when I'm not doing anything in my other MMO but if the response is crap I don't want to waste my time again =(
Thanks!

Hi CSX,
The response time on the UI and Menus has gotten much better since Day 2 of this game. ;)
If you remember the massive lag trying to do a basic Synthesis in this game (i.e., wait 4 - 6 seconds just to get into the Requested Items or into your Inventory, then wait 3 - 4 seconds to get back to the actual Synth screen), or moving up and down in your Inventory... it's much better now. You have Page Up & Page Down options, Auto-Sorting, faster Mouse response times, etc.
Also, it's not in the game yet, but they are making a more optimized / customized UI for Mouse & Keyboard players.
There's a bunch of new content coming in this next patch 1.18 and 1.19 (Raid Dungeons, Ifrit Boss Battle, traditional Final Fantasy Jobs, Airships and more). IMHO, there's never been a better time to try out FF XIV.
It's not done or fully polished yet (still lots of work), but it's looking a lot better.

Kiara did cover some things. There's a hardware mouse option in the game config outside of the game if you're a keyboard user that would help immensely. But the game as a whole still has some delays to it because of the user interface being on the server side of things.
I'd wait about a couple weeks (at best) before getting back into FFXIV. Patch 1.18 is coming VERY soon and it will start changing many parts of the game as we knew. There will be a battle system overhaul, leve overhaul, more new features, and some other things I think would be best if you waited to restart on.

The interface is a lot more responsive than before. In terms of being mouse friendly, it's not where it could be. The developers have acknowledged that they would like to improve the fluency of the mouse with the interface as well.
As a side note, FFXIV should still be in its "free" phase, so you would not have to pay for a monthly subscription at this time.

To put it simply the old FFXIV is dead starting with Patch 1.18 it is basically going to be a new mmo in the majority of the aspects of the game.
The battle system is changing, the leveling system is changing, the job system is changing, Leves are no longer the focus of the game, they are adding tons of quest, SP is rewarded for them now (if you like that is a matter of opinion), companys are being added, dungeons are being added, Transportation is being added in a few more updates.
If you hated release I would wait until after 1.18... because if you come back now what you see will not be anything you can use to judge the game.

imo you'd be crazy to start playing before 1.19

the worst thing you can do right now is get ur hopes up, jump into the game and anticipate some huge change that makes the game better. honestly, as of right now, the game is pretty much the same as release MINUS a good chunk of lag and inconveinces.
i'd say wait like a week after 1.18, see how people feel about it. if they get 1.18/1.19 right, people are going to start playing again and things will start to pick up. that would be a great time to start playing.

Honestly wait until August
-
Honestly, I'd wait until July/August when 1.18/1.19 drop; they're supposedly major patches that are going to really change some pretty basic core features of the game. However, the controls are much more responsive than they were in open beta (my last experience with FFXIV). There's still a 1-2 sec delay for some things, due to everything being server-side, but YoshiP said that they're looking to optimize the UI for both PC play, and to hopefully add some client-side stuff to smooth things out. (God I hope that's soon.)
But yeah, I'd chill for another month or so. If you really wanna dive back in, go for it, but you'll be kinda twiddling your thumbs until the big stuff hits.

Why not jump in and see the changes that have been made so far,get a feel for the world and find a good ls and prepare yourself for all the good things to come. Its really up to you but there's plenty of people still playing and getting ready for the new contet.
