Does the Ultima HM "Minstral's Ballad" plot bother anyone else?

One thing that has never made sense to me is the ultima weapon battle "Minstral's Ballad" or ultima HM as it's known.

I get that you are thinking back to the battle, and i get that the bard is over exaggerating the event making it seem more epic. That's all fine.

What i don't get is how you are able to then take accessories dropped by ultima from your dream?

Is this the power of the echo being able to manifest items you dream about with that particular bard? Is the bard some kind of special npc with powers able to grant you such things from your mind?

If so, what's stopping you from dreaming about beating ultima weapon and having it drop..... an ultima weapon? game balance probably right? :D storywise though, i know this game isn't realistic and everything, but this one instance really annoyed me and wondered if anyone else noticed.

I kind of have a hate thing for (mini) plots that end with "It was all a dream...... or was it?" BS.
