Crafting Advice

Hi all,

I'm trying to decide on what I should do. I know it's all up to personal preference when it comes to disciples of the hand classes but as a new starting player, I'm curious on where I should be starting, and if I'm limited to just one craft or what not.

I JUST started goldsmith on my pugilist last night but I haven't gotten a chance to do anything with it. I got my hammer/chisel/whatever and that's about it. Are there any crafts that would be more useful to me as a pugilist? The forums can seem to be very overwhelming as a lot of the information is older and can be diffcult for me to sort through until I know what all the different terminologies mean.

There's no limit on how many classes you take and that includes the DoH and DoL ones.

Goldsmith is good for all classes as it provides accessories and it makes about a third of the weapons for pugilist/monk. The others are made by blacksmith and most of your armour is going to be made by leatherworker and weaver, with the odd piece made by armourer.

That said crafted gear is currently "nice but not required" so I would only recommend getting heavily into it if you enjoy the crafting minigame, otherwise you may not find it worth your while. While it's possible to make money at it crafting isn't the money-earner in this game that it is in other MMORPGs.

I read that there wasn't much of a limit to what classes you can take, but wasn't sure if you can potentially max them all or if you're limited to 2 or 3 of them. I'm likely not going to look into getting too heavily into it given what I'm reading on the current economical investment that is required (which I don't have yet) and the little gain that is gathered from it (as you mentioned).

At this point of time you can max all available classes.

As a crafter, you might often find that you need medium materials from other classes (like leather or cloth) to craft.

Leatherworker is better for you than Goldsmith. Leather worker makes armor for disciples of war, and also a few of the pugilist weapons. As a Goldsmith, you wanna learn mining since a the vat majority of your materials come from mining. Also, it may not be in your best interests to learn a crafting/gathering job until you maxed your primary job. You'll need to go to certain places to get some mats. Otherwise pan to spend a truck load of money in the market place.

If you're going to level a class, level them all. Each craft learns special abilities unique to them... but once learned you can import them to other classes. Having a good number of those really helps when making high-quality gear (And for various reasons, high-quality gear is the only crafted gear you should really bother with)

I don't know if you'd want to take the same approach as me... I'm currently leveling all 3 gathering professions and 6/8 crafting professions at the same time O.o (left out bsm/arm... will probably go back for them later). i found that the the crafts are all so woven in and embedded together that I would save the most money and maximize the most profit by being self sufficient (besides buying a few ingots or rivets here and there from bsm).

i'm leveling entirely through leves... just passed the 25-30 stretch and found i needed approximately 9-10 high quality turn ins to get through that stretch. we only get an allotment of 100 leves, but my play time is quite low and i have found that i never sink below 80... actually i don't think i have sunk below 85 (btw: leves replenish every 12 hours i think it is. so every 12 hours, you get 3 leve allowances added back into your journal).

anyways, this system works great for me. i'd suggest only using it if you're not in any rush to max out a profession and you're willing to invest the time. i'm sure if i had focused on at least one profession, i could have a 2-star level 50 of *something...* i figure, i'm here for the long haul, anyways.

my last pro point for the choice to raise everything together is cross-skills. by raising everything, i will likely have the ability to guarantee 100% high quality synths. i think one of those skills might be something from BSM, but I found a sub-reddit article that utilizes something from 50 alchemy and HQ food that does just as well at guaranteeing the HQ synth, so I'm not tons worried about leaving BSM behind.

I can suggest to you what i did, i picked up all the crafts and found leves to do with cheap materials that gave me a reward that at least broke even (this included any teleports.) i levelled them all to 15 starting with leatherworking. At 15 every craft gets a skill that can be cross classed. I took them all to 15 on spare leves when i make a stock pile of items to turn in. Took culinarian to 37 because that skill is great! Then just started on crafts where i knew i could farm the materials like weaver and carpenter (i played with botany for awhile). Some people level specific ones for the level 50 ability first, but i tried to keep costs down.

Thank you all for the good suggestions. While I won't pretend to understand everyhing you're referring to (yet), I'm sure I'll pick it up. I'm a quick study. I won't be able to take a look into anything more until later. Posting from work, while great for getting some answers before you're able to play, can wreck havok until you can actually get in-game to see what's what. :)
