Urgent: Require Clarification on Char. Slots

Every time I've seen this topic come up, a straight answer was never given (that I can find, apologies if I missed something).

At the moment, I have three character slots.

(1) Storage Mule
(2) Main Character
(3) Teleport Mule

When the game switches over to pay mode, I will be dropping at least one, if not two, of these slots. If I were to delete two of them, my character in slot 2 would /not/ move to slot one. So there is NO misunderstanding about the answer I want, the list would appear as such:

(1) EMPTY
(2) Main Character
(3) EMPTY

Now, if I were to change my Square Enix account options so that I only had one character ID in play, what would happen when slots (2) and (3) disappear? Does Main Character get pushed back to Slot (1), or do I ragequit FFXIV after realizing that I end up with:

(1) EMPTY

A clear answer on this would be extremely helpful at this point.

You don't pay for a certain amount of character slots. Each character slot is a so-called "option" and can be independendtly removed. On the account management system you also see what character is in which slot so there shouldn't be any problem.

Thanks for the reply! I've only added slots before, not tried to remove them. I suppose that it's a natural assumption to assume removal would be the same as addition - but I'm glad to know I was wrong, there. Good to have the answer up, though. Thanks again.
