Suggestion/Request/Pipe Dream - Where's my backpack!?

I remember being very excited when I first saw this in the FFXIV: ARR cutscene. I know it's what we in-game see as our inventory grid, but I wonder... :o Have the developers considered giving us the option to toggle on/off a backpack on our character to see? It would be so awesome to be able to see it on my back >_<!!

Probably clipping issues. They can't even get weapons straightened out.

I must say, that is an epic backpack of awesomeness, and I would love to see it added to the game.

I could hide in my husband's backpack and finally get that piggyback ride!

I figured at this point with how many things were clipping (Weapons, hair, hoods, shields...), they wouldn't really mind anymore. I don't think it'd be very different than how the shield looks on a character's back. Maybe make it so that toggling backpack on toggles weapons (on the back, so staves, shields, great axes, spears, etc) off of the character?

I'm just guessing. I don't mind if backpacks are added, but if they decide clipping is a trivial issue, then they better add long hair options with it since that was their excuse for not making hair longer.

Expect a random "PS3 limitation" comment to pop up.

You just made the post I was thinking about for the last week off and on. I really want a backpack. Seriously. I am not lying. I feel really bummed out when I can't see my adventurer have one. I also am a huge fan of the old trailer that shows adventurers walking into the adv guild with backpacks on while the others sit at the table and discuss which leves they will go for next.

It's a great trailer of some classes kicking butt before jobs were even thought of being in the game.


I was trying to think of a way they could implement backpacks without too much trouble. I was thinking they could attach them to a chest piece that could be part of a adventurer looking vanity set. Preferably the vanity set would be dyeable so people could have a way to make it more personalized. It would be nicer if there were back pieces of course but back pieces would clip through most gear.

If there is a way to do this at all, Please give us an adventurer vanity set that has a backpack! Please, Please! <3

i wish there was more voice acting in this game.

Yep, and that scene I screenshotted can also be seen in the opening video on the Start menu! I thought we'd get a viewable backpack when I first saw it, and was very puzzled to not find it in-game. I guess I'm too used to other games where the bag is viewable instead XD

The way I see this, backpack doesn't look much different to implement as the chair we're getting for fishers:

My best guess is that since fisher has no secondary tool, maybe the chair will be an off-hand tool to equip, just for cosmetic purpose. Maybe they could also make an off-hand backpack equipment?

That scene was actually from the version 1.0 opening movie, found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag2cRTU-Og8 , and it should be noted a great deal of what was shown in that scene was never actually implemented in even 1.0 - aetheryte inside the Adventurer's Guild, the actual design of the Drowning Wench ended up looking nothing like how it was depicted in that scene, an elezen adventurer was shown wearing a cape, some of the adventurers clearly have great swords strapped to their backs, etc etc.

So yeah, it was never implemented, and is just to be taken as 'flavouring' for that scene and nothing else.

It should also be noted a lot of gear actually has small bags/wallets attached as part of the design though, like the new starting racial armour, so there are kind of examples of characters wearing bags in the game. But not to the extent of a backpack sadly.
