Titanic Sawfish
Share your hate for this fish.
Having robbed me of a week of my life with still no catch, I could go for hearing some other peoples' horror stories about the troll of the seas.
Seriously, 40+ HQ wahoo double mooches and always. Gear is melded nearly to max and I know to stick to 10am-4pm on sunny or fair days. Shark every time...

I've decided this fish is my nemeses, and it is out to haunt my dreams. I think I have spent close to 120 hours or more camping this fish, with over melded gear, food, and caffeine tablets. I have levelled all my crafts to 50 whilst waiting for the right weather conditions, sometimes even manually grinding up to 5 levels on classes.
When I catch this fish, I want to mount it on a spear, and parade it around Ul'dah for a fortnight. A FORTNIGHT.

by far, this fish wastes more time than any fish in the game. I had spent all day long for several weeks trying to get it originally, back when nobody on the fishing forum had gotten it yet. then finally the first person ever catches it, and it took them mere minutes........... how can that possibly be.......... then other experienced the same thing, catching it pretty quickly.
luck is just a MAJOR factor with this fish. cause when you get those double mooches, you aren't screwing up and missing the catches, that would be "player skill" , but you are actually consistently catching whatever hooks the line, and a million times over it's a damn shark
you have to waste hours on end checking for the weather, waiting for sunny days
it gets beyond frustrating when others catch is so quick but you spend days and weeks at the same spot

No horror story to tell, but I have spent quite a while trying to catch this fish. I'd pretty much convinced myself that there's some kind of Perception requirement and that's why I haven't caught it - are folks certain that's not the case?
I'm actually surprised Sharks still sell so well, given that any fisher trying to complete their collection will spend many long hours at this spot.
That said - I'm glad that they DO sell well, since it makes me feel like I'm actually accomplishing something when I try to catch this thing...

To catch mine, I kept switching between my baits every couple hours...partially thinking 'well gee, one needs to catch him right'
I used all the 'suggested' baits
Pillbugs, Floating Minnows, Rat Tails Lugworms etc.
What worked. Fish the morning- Noon in Sunny weather with a Floating Minnow. At noon I swapped to Lugworm, caught it by 1:00pm. But I have no idea if bait swapping helped. Could have just been my lucky time.

the bait only matters is for the goby
the next thing you want to do is find which bait gets the FASTEST bite, cause you want the 10-11 second or whatever bite, not the 18-25 second bites. if you use a bait that takes too long, you are wasting a lot of time that actually adds up. you need to maximize your time with fast bites on those gobys
lugworms, pill bugs, goby balls
i have on my old notes to use goby balls

on the DOL forums, i've posted the earliest morning time for the sawfish, which was a 930am catch.
there isn't enough data/catches to conclude what the exact end time is, but it's like 230-3 or so IIRC

Took about a month of on and off fishing to net this fish. It literally almost gave me the achievement for fishing in Thanalan at a level 41-50 fishing hole before they nerfed the achievement. I couldn't even count the amount of money I made off Silver Sharks doing this. Believe it or not, it wasn't the last fish to catch on my list. That legendary sky fish took longer.

Update, finally caught the fishy sob within 24 hours of original post.

Thank for all the support and the best of luck to the rest of you!

Feeling inspired - purchased 4 stacks of pill bugs. Waited for weather... and BAM! FIRST. BLOODY. CAST. XD
Weeks of camping, weeks of fishing, and ah, I feel so elated. I sent it to a friend who knew my plight via Moogle Mail. So satisfying!
