Connecting to NA servers in Japan

I will be studying abroad in Japan in April and would like to continue playing on a PS4. Til now I've only played FF14 on a PC. I've learned that I don't need any converters for the PS4 power supply, but will there be any issues connecting to the NA server?

For example, do I need to be connected to the North American PSN server to play on a North American FF14 server? If this is the case, can I connect to the North American PSN server from Japan? Will it matter if my PSN account is Japanese or American?

I'd just like to get these things ironed out before going abroad.
