Patch download speed on PSN and saved progress

Hi,

My old hard drive died and so I installed a new on in my ps3 and right away installed ffxiv. When I login it wants to download the patch. This started off very slowly and so I opened the ports on my router and then the speed increased big time. However, the speed is now at .15MB/ s and says it will take another 200minutes.
I downloaded more than half and would love to restart ps3 to see if I would get a faster speed again, but I'm afraid it won't save the downloaded progress as of now. I know that because when I stopped several times last night and restarted it would start from scratch.

I read some place that after a certain % it would save my progress. Is that true or will I just have to wait all day to be able to play?

FYI: my first install on old ps3 hard drive took 40mins and now he is slothing down the patches
