A question.

I'm a video editor in my spare time and I like to make AMVS and such. And I've been itching to make a music video surrounding my Free Company.

And it was recently brought to my attention that Square Enix is hosting an AMV contest. Which has left me a little confused because of what their rules say here about video meshes.
I've tried google searching to see if amvs are against the rules but I had little luck with finding any help that way. Most of it was people complaining about lets plays and making money off their videos, of which I have no interest in.

So. My question is: Is it only against the rules to make music videos with game footage if you intend to make money with it via Youtube's partnership whowhat? Or is it just against the rules to use music from popular bands? Or what? o_o

I probably should have specified I'm not trying to enter the contest, gosh darn character limit made it hard for me to explain things. XD

I'm only wondering if it's against the rules or not in general. Like if I just up and decided to make and AMV right now, would it be against the rules? It's not very clear to me what can and cannot be done.

Hmm i'm not sure...it's probably only against the rules if you tried to make money with it, if its just for fun i don't see why it would be against the rules as it would be a fan made video, but maybe a more informed person could chime in and give a better clear answer.
